Idle air control, vacuum leak, faulty throttle position sensor, bad oxygen sensor. Have a professional diagnose and you can repair it yourself to save money.

Loose throttle body or intake creating vacuumleaks.
Need to use a scanner to try to pin it down.
Dirty or faulty map or maf sensors
But I think you'll find rotten rubber vacuum lines.

1997. Idle seems a bit high. How can I adjust it? I'm getting awesomely high mileage both city and highway but i think it could improve still more and the idling speed feels too high.

The idle speed is controlled by the engine computer through the idle air control valve , there are no provisions for adjusting idle . If idle is to high or you just think it's high , you need to test ,don't guess . Watch this video that shows what happens when you adjust thing's that you should not . Ford IAC valve test how to adjust minimum idle speed How to do it correctly !

Vacuum line leak

It could possibly be a vacuum leak, try replacing the Idle Air Control Valve about a $45 part..
Trace down the hose(s) that is (are) torn, dry rotted or just fallen off and replace them also.. I hope this works.

I have a 1990 S-15 with 4.3 motor idles high when you start, idles down , set and idle for a while it starts idling up and down.any idea's?

Could be a faulty idle air control valve.
The computer controls idle speed by regulating how much air enters the throttle body thru the valve.
You could unplug the valve when the idle speed is close to normal, then shut the engine off and restart to see if the idle speed is still in the same place. Unplugging the valve will also set a trouble code and turn the warning light on.

2001 Chrysler Concorde LXI randomly stalling while slowly dow to stop or turn. Will usually crank back. This car will sit and idle for ever, but when you drive it for 10-15 minutes and slow down to stop or...

One suggestion:
Speed sensor failure.

Info:
Some of the classic symptoms, stalling at dead stops. failure to auto lock doors. poor fuel economy. Failure to go to overdrive.

Recommendation:
Go to your local parts store and run the failure codes.

Shop notes:
Your ECU thinks that the engine is running with out moving, During slow down the engine steps down the idle to match ground speed and as a result the engine will not stall. At present it goes directly to idle and stalls due to drag on motor.
Hope this tip helps.

Engine idle speed too fast some times. idle speed

Three things to check for:

1) High idle switch is on..*(vehicle thinks AC is running but it isn't.
You can try turning on the AC and see if the engine slows down to confirm this one.

2) Sticking or worn out Idle Air Control or IAC, You might get a check engine light with this one.....you might not if it's a mechanical failure.

3) Simplest of all. A vacuum leak. You can get the engine vacuum read while running if you go to a mechanic with a vacuum guage or an OBD 2 ecu code reader. There should be specs on what vacuum levels are normal for you car at idle.

Good luck and be careful!

Rough idle up and down 1988 ford bronco has a new Idle Air Control Valve was thinking it could be the MAP sensor or the coolant temp sensor anyway tho check either of these.

Try discoonecting the battery for a few minutes, and then reconnect and drive it, it may have to "relearn" proper idle speed.
