Mercedes 1987 190E 2.3 serious starting problems. When starting cold at first took 20 to 40 seconds to turn over and would not hold idle without foot on gas. Now only starts with starting fluid which I...

Have you checked your OVP relay? They can be troublesome for sure. It's located behind the battery under a plastic cover. It'll be the tall relay with the aluminum housing, has a fuse on top, check the fuse first. If the fuse is good then pull the relay and give it a shake, it's not supposed to rattle, good sign it's bad if it does. Sometimes moisture can get back there and cause corrosion to the relay pins and connector. If it pulls out hard then I'd suspect to see some corrosion, most all mercedes electrical connectors are silver plated and turn black when oxidized. If so clean it up by lightly scrubbing with a scotch pad. I've had problems with them before and had luck repairing them myself by removing aluminum shell and reheating all the sauter on pcb carefully. If the printed circuit board looks burned in any way there's a possibility that the electronic components may be toast. May be easier to buy a new ovp relay but they can be pricey. The OVP relay is one of a few possible culprits to your issue, best case scenario imo. Worse case your cylinder compression is too low. Could be a cold start valve issue too. Hope this helps.

Can't find the fuel pump relay on my 1990 190E Mercedes. Every thing I see says it is in the engine compartment behind the battery. Not so on my 190E. Where else could the fuel pump relay be?

Relay should be behind fuses under a screwed down cover. My question to you is why would you think the relay is bad? Check voltage at the pump as someone turns the car to on. At this age it's most likely a dead or dying pump. Other things to consider are OVP relay (behind the battery) , coil dead, general tune up ie plugs, wires, cap and rotor.

Need location of a fuel pump relay for a 1991 300e mercedes

I have a 2.6 and there is no separate relay for the fuel pump. The fuel pump, along with the A/C and a couple few other things are controlled by a module behind the plastic cover that covers your battery. It is not behind the battery. The module is tall and rectangular and has a knob on it's top that you twist to unlock it so it can be pulled up and out of the socket. The OVP relay is alongside this device. It is not cheap and it is vital that you get the proper one matched to your caricon1.png

Circuit Protection The fuse panel is located below and to the left of the steering column.
Fuses are a one-time circuit protection. If a circuit is overloaded or shorts, the fuse will blow thus protecting the circuit. A fuse will continue to blow until the circuit is repaired.

Main fuse box located on driver's side to the left of the steering wheel, above the brake pedal.

How to reset abs light on 1992 300e mercedes. My car was parked on the street. One day when I started it

In all of the other forums the mechanics talk about replacing or checking the fuses on the OVP which is the Over Voltage Protection Relay located on the right side of the engine compartment behind the battery. That might be a good place to start checking.

How do you replace a relay switch on a 1988 300 mercedes. it looks like there are two of them behind the battery and the fire wall

There are actually 3 behind the battery and the fire wall. 1- Fuel relay switch. 2- AC relay control switch. 3- OVP Over voltage protection relay switch. They all have labels. To replace, just pull them upward. To have an easy access, remove the ECM unit blocking access first, then put it back after you replace the relay switch.

86 mercedes 300e wont start i ran a wire from fuel pump to battery and it starts

Your Fuel Pump Module is bad. It is located behind the battery on the passenger side. Remove the plastic cover next to the battery, you will see the ECM, behind it, there are 3 boxes, 1 for AC, 1 for OVP, and one for Fuel Pump Control Module. They all have labels for identification on replacement.

Ovp fuses 1990 500sl merc

i've never heard of an ovp fuse on a benz. I think what your talking about is the base module. on the next fuel injection system. I think yours is a c.i.s. which has an overvoltage relay behind the passanger side of the rear firewall. you'll see a panal with phillips screws remove it and you'll see a red top and silver body color relay with a 10 amp fuse on top. if it has the base you'll see a metal cover with 4mm allen head bolts remove lid and the base module has a series of 10 amd blade style fuses in it. hopefully this is your problem
