Question about Cars & Trucks

Front end shakes occasionally and stops. Checked balance, tie rods, tried to move tires while jacked. Nothing!

From time to time, get shakes in front end that feels like something is going to fall off. Then stops. Usually if constant highway driving no problem. Happens mostly during city driving after several stops. Cannot pin point.

Get front wheel balancing done first especially if this shaking occurs at a specific speed for example at more or less 60 mph and disappears when driving faster or slower.

Has a shake in the front end shakes then stops then shakes again only at hwy speeds around 70 mph

Looseness in the front end or a tread separation in the tire. This is extreme but you get the idea if there is a bulge near the side of the tire even a tiny one

I have a 97 cirrus front end shimmys when you take off from a light and just hade 4 new tires put on

you might want to check the tie rod ends jack the car and see if you can move the tire from front to rear look at the tie rods while you are moving the tire that will give you an idea of whats going on and you might want to have the tires high speed balanced again????

My car is shaky every time i hit a stop light?

you should keep all four tires on the ground !!!! LOL ! your rotors or brake pads are bad. do you feel it shake in the steering wheel ? Check these three items and im sure it will fix.......1) jack front car up and try to move front tires in all directions, does it feel loose at all? if yes check tie rod ends, upper and lower ball joints. 2) check brake pads for wear, heat from pads warp the rotors and cause the break pedal and steering to shake or vibrate. 3) If nothing can be found wrong with the tie rods or ball joints i recommend changing the rotors and brake pads, a pretty cheap fix.

My steering wheel shakes left to right at 50 - 60 mph. I recently balanced tires. This is 2006 LR3 and the mileage is 65000. Thanks!

If you are "positive" the tires are balanced equally, then a couple other things that could cause this are:(We'll start easy and go from there)

Do you have a steering stabilizer? (Looks like a shock attached to the draglink/tie rod). If it is worn out, this may cause the feedback in the steering.

Also check your tie rod ends and drag link ends to ensure they are not shot. Easiest way to do this is to jack up the front of the truck so both wheels are off the ground, then try to push in/pull out on the front side of the tire (basically like you are trying to turn the tires by hand instead of using the steering wheel). There should be no play or slop. If you can move the tire in or out a little, look under it at the tie rod ends and drag link ends while you do this. See if one of them is sloppy. Basically what you'll see is the tie rod or drag link move before the end of it does. You should be able to see which one is the cluprit.

I've also seen warped brake rotors cause this problem. Best way to check those (if you don't have the means to do so yourself) is to either pull the rotors off and bring them to a local auto parts store to have them checked for runout/wobble. If you aren't able to pull them yourself, any shop can pull them and check them for you. Likewise, they can check your tie rods, drag link, ball joints, etc. Most of them can do a diagnosis for less than $100 and tell you exactly what it is so you're not wasting time or $$ trying to find the problem.

Front end shakes at 65 to 75pmh

I would have front tires checked for balance at any tire shop. If okay inspect tie rod ends, idler arm, and pitman arm, as I see these part go bad most often on these vehicles. It sounds like you have a tire balance problem.

Steering shacks replaced steering damper still shacks

shakes?or shacks?Let's just say that you mean shake. If your brake pedal pulsates, replace the rotors. If your steering wheel shakes(low speed)broken belt in front tire.Jack up one tire enough to clear the ground, spin it.Spins nice, lower and jack up the other.Spin that one,if the belt is broke it'll be very noticable. While up in the air check the lug nuts,if they're loose it can make the steering shake too.If the shake is at highway speed, bad shocks or tie rods or ball joints or a combination of these.Jack up a front tire and try to move it(Key turned off to lock steering). If it moves top to bottom, ball joint.Side to side, tie rod.Doesn't move, shocks. The worst could be a bad hub bearing, but you'd hear it and you said nothing about any noise.

1996 jeep cherokee sport shakes badly over 40mph

Front end need to be checked. checked shocks and stabilizer links.
check damper shock.
Check the tie rods. They had come loose, causing the wheels have excessive play and vibrate. Be aware that they will not balance tires or give a front end alignment if the tie rods are the culprit. They must be replaced first, otherwise the alignment will only hold until the first time you turn the wheel...which could be 5 seconds after you get in the car. Good luck.
