this is a question better asked of doctors and medical sites. The problem is serious so if you cannot get a result from your doctor then move up to a specialist gynaecologist. But push the issue as it is your daughters health. A full blood test before ,when this is happening and a few weeks after may give some explanation as to what is happening

My forester when on reverse the engine shuts down

Is your Subaru automatic transmission or manual? If it is Automatic Gear box one possibility is the bands inside the gear box stay slight close causing the move stiff. It is Like the Handbrake activation. If this is the cause, please try to see you mechanic and ask for his help and advise, and do not try to do anything on your own. The other possibility is the handbrake itself, even you put it down might the cable do not release the handbrake shoes inside the drums and move stiff and as your reverse speed is low cuts out immediately.

Sounds like you need to take car to transmission shop.

Hi my name if Tom and I am here to help you.

You certainly know your way around cars. I have a question for you. I do not see anything about a tune up or check for faulty wires, rotors, distributor cap, and especially timing. Have these been done recently?

It sounds to me like your timing is too far advanced. Do you have or can you borrow a timing light. Even without one you can check the timing the old school way.

Loosen the distributor so you can just rotate it. Rotate the distributor using an insulated glove. Oven mitts work great. Listen to the engine and when it is running the smoothest tighten the distributer. You will be within 1/2 a point.

I trust this was of help. Please, call or email me with a update. I am interested in your reaction to my suggestion. I would bet your timing is too far advanced. This causes the engine to run lean. This would explain the starting with starting fluid, the running fast, etc..

Please call or email me with your results. If I can be of further help or you have any question, please feel free to call. Either way, please give me the number of thumbs my advice is worth to you.

No one can tell you this answer until you put the new timing chain on and crank the engine. However, Land Rovers are pretty tough, it's worth a shot.
