The battery might have gone bad if it wasn't disconnected. It's deeply discharged.

SOURCE: I have a 1985 buick

10 years is a long tie to sit with out starting. The first thing to do is remove all spark plugs. Then get a can of oil - use a hose with a funnel tip at the end and insert it into the spark plug hole. Pour a little amount into each cylinders- after that is done-- Turn crank by hand to free the piston rings from cylinder walls. And i would change the gas.

My celica has been sitting in the driveway for about 6 months. I connected the battery and had little trouble starting it, but finally got it to start. Then i turned it off and tried to turn it on again...

The battery connections may be dirty. The alternator may not be charging the battery. You had enough battery to start the car and keep it running but because the battery may not have been receiving charge, it lost power the whole time the engine was running. When you turned off the engine, the battery may have been practically dead. So, it wouldn't have any power left when you tried to restart or even turn on.

If you have a battery charger, charge the battery back up. Check the alternator for proper charging output. some auto parts stores will check the alternator output for free.

My car has been sitting unused for 2 months and it won't start even when I have tried to jump-start it. when there is not another car hooked up to it it doesn't do anything and then I am trying to jump...

Try charging the battery first. Hook up to another vehicle and let them sit connected for about 10 minutes. Afterwards, then try starting it. If that makes any difference at all...keep charging. If theres no difference, replace the battery.

Does a bad generator keep the car from turning on 1996 Buick Century

A bad generator will not charge the battery as the engine is running over a period of time the battery will run down on charge and there will not be enough power to turn the engine over

Have a 1996 Taurus wagon--dead battery--got brand new battery and connected it properly and car barely turns over and wont turn enough to start--car was sitting for about three months

Was the battery checked before it was sold to you? Batteries will lose their charge over a period of time even when not hooked up. If you have a voltmeter it should read 12.8 volts on a fully charged battery.
Have you tried to boost the car with cables?
I suspect if the car was working OK 3 months ago it should start. Which leads me to suggest an undercharged battery.
