If water pump is noisey or leaking, it WILL have to be replaced. You can not clean a pump to correct noise or leaks

Noises such as a rumble or tinny rattle require a replacement pump
If it is just a squeak it may be a loose drive belt
use a drop of detergent on the belt and if it goes quiet then consider adjusting the belt or replacing it.

SOURCE: Can Geo Metro parts be used to fix a Chevrolet Metro?

The hood will be the same, but the bumper will be different: the Geo Metro had its turn signals in the bumper and the Chevy Metro had them in with the headlights. The bumpers also look different, however their mounts may be the same. If your sister wants fer car to look the same you should find a bumper from a 1998-2001 Chevy Metro.

SOURCE: How do you fix a sagging headliner in a 1995 Geo

These headliners are glued to the inside of the roof. There are four huge ribbons of hard glue down almost the full length. It will tear off part of the headliner like opening a carboard box (because it is cardboard). You have to try not to bend up the headliner getting it off. The edges are glued under the door seals. Typically the seals aren't glued though, they just pull down. Those plastic plugs need more of an even pressure to pull out without damage; you might be better off with some school scissors rather than a single screwdriver, or you may find a tool at the partshouse for $5 or less. You can find plugs like that at Lowes if they're damaged, but typically just black or white only. Really you might want to shop around first. Someone around here used to advertise $50. That would be well worth skipping this kind of wrinkled, gluey hell.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Drain the cooling system.

CAUTION When draining the coolant, keep in mind that cats and dogs are attracted by the ethylene glycol antifreeze, and are quite likely to drink any that is left in an uncovered container or in puddles on the ground. This will prove fatal in sufficient quantity. Always drain the coolant into a sealable container. Coolant should be reused unless it is contaminated or several years old.

  3. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
  4. Loosen but do not remove the four coolant pump pulley bolts.
  5. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  6. Remove the lower splash shield.
  7. Remove the air conditioner compressor drive belt.
  8. Remove the lower alternator cover plate bolts, loosen the alternator adjusting bolt, and remove the drive belt.
  9. Remove the crankshaft pulley.

  15. Remove the water pump mounting bolts and nuts. Remove the water pump from the vehicle.
To install:
  1. Clean the gasket mating surfaces thoroughly.
  2. Check the water pump by hand for smooth operation. If the pump does not operate smoothly or is noisy, replace it.

  6. Install the oil level dipstick and guide tube.
  7. Install the timing belt.
  8. Install the water pump pulley and leave the bolts hand tight.
  9. Install the crankshaft pulley.
  10. Install the water pump/alternator drive belt.
  11. Install the lower alternator cover plate and tighten bolts to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  12. Install the air conditioner compressor drive belt by releasing the tensioner pulley and installing belt.
  13. Install the lower splash shield and lower vehicle.
  14. Tighten water pump pulley mounting bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (24 Nm).

Your assumption would be probable! Sounds like the cooling system is being pressurised from the engine which is normally caused by blown head gasket! Is the water mixing with the oil?

Geo metro troubleshooting

Several possible causes:
Not enough coolant.
Worn out vanes on the water pump
plugged radiator
bad sensor (is it actually too hot?)
Cooling fan not coming on.
cooling fan shroud broken.
Radiator covered or plugged.
radiator cap not holding pressure
leak in cooling system (water pump shaft seal is a common culprit and hard to spot).

How do you remove and replace a water pump on a 1995 geo metro lsi

Ok here is the low down.
To replace the water pump you must remove the timming belt as well as many other items.
Are you mechanicaly inclined or would you be better off having a pro handle the job? They have the tools to make it easy.
Let me know i'll give you step by step if you want it, but it is a long procedure.
