Blue smoke is oil and yes it could be from valve stem seals
the test her is to let it idle for a period of time --like at a set of lights -- then rev the engine as if taking off
if you get a cloud of blue smoke it is the stem seals
if not the oil may be from a PCV valve fault where excess oil vapour is being drawn into the inlet manifold.

The smoke from valve seals would be gray/white. Your smoke is more likely from a fuel rich condition.

What causes white smoke to come out of the exhaust when I start up my 98 dodge ram 2500 v8 magnum ext please help

white smoke from a cold engine could be water vapour that will disappear when the system gets hot
if it persists it indicates water in the combustion process
have a compression test done for head gasket or cracked head
run the fault codes to check for correct air/fuel mixture sensor operations

Has the exhaust ( catalytic converter) been check for proper flow? I would try a test pipe to by-pass converter and see if that helps. You used to be able to buy them, but a good exhaust shop can make one pretty quick, and then try it.

Hi Gert, If the smoke is more visible during the period after start up in the mornings, I would suspect the valve stem oil seals have become hardened and defective. The oil seeps in slowly passing the seals from the cylinder head. Sounds as though you need a head job. Regards John

White smoke usually indicates water could be a head gasket. Blue smoke when started and between shifts could be valve seals. usually expensive to fix.

check the fuel injector....some times there may be dust accumulated in it......engine misfiring may also be a reason for such a fault as u said....... jus check these two conditions....surely one of this ll be a problem from my view.. good luck!!!!!

Blue smoke from tail pipe 98 neon no leaks i can see

It sounds like you could need some new piston rings. when they go bad it causes oil to get by into the combustion chamber and burn when the engine fires.
