    Hi Anonymous, I want to help you with your question, but I need more information from you. Can you please add details in the comment box? Are you asking about using the wrong weight oil (10w30 vs 5w30) or are you asking about using the wrong "type" of oil (conventional vs synthetic) ?

What will happen if you use the wrong motor oil in a 2005 Chevy Equinox? I used 10W 30

It wont hurt anything, however if you live where its cold, i recommend replacing it as soon as you can with the correct weight oil.

Dead cylinder....timming is right, getting fuel, spark is fine...compression test shows all cylinders are the same, good...the car only runs on 2 cylinders instead of 3...plugs and wires are new...

cant happen, you missed something, if you have spark, fuel and compression the cylinder will hit, go check again, when doing the compression test kill the spark and lock the throttle wide open. most common thing we see on the 1.0L 3cylinder is burnt valves most common cause is the wrong motor oil the valve lifters can not release the oil back threw the bleader hole if you use to heavey a motor oil, we see owners change the oil and use 10W-30 or 10W-40 and usely within 5000 miles the valves will burn, if you want to use the heaver oil then you need to replace the lifters with an updated part number that has the abilty to use the heaver oil.

What kind of oil do i use for a 2000 dodge carivan?

ENGINE OIL

You will need to use a 10W-30 grade engine oil, such as any of the following Mobil products.
"Fully synthetic" oils are more expensive. Conventional oils or syn blend engine oils are fine for the vehicle but need to be changed more frequently.

Mobil 1 Extended Performance 10W-30
fully synthetic motor oil ;
spacer.gif Mobil 1 High Mileage 10W-30
fully synthetic motor oil;
spacer.gif Mobil 1 10W-30
fully synthetic motor oil;

Mobil Clean 7500 10W-30
synthetic blend motor oil ;
spacer.gif Mobil Clean High Mileage 10W-30
a conventional motor oil;
spacer.gif Mobil Clean 5000 10W-30
a conventional motor oil .

I lost my Owners Manual and I need to know what kind of oil I need to use for an oil change- 10W-30 or 10W40?

Either one is fine, one is a little thicker.
Then the multigrade motor oil was made.....multi grade means: a different viscosity (thickness)when cold & hot. *Why use a multi grade oil? Because the first number 20w / 10w /5w / 0w is the viscosity of the oil at startup/ cold temperature which lubricates better on start up getting to places the thicker oil wont on startup - when the motor starts to warm up then you have the second number eg. if your oil is a 10w-30 the motor starts up with the oil thinner at 10 weight and as it warms up to operating temperature its thicker to 30 weight. The reason it has thicker oil is to handle the heat etc. Now on a 80Farenheit day / 30 degree C day that thickness may change a bit but it still thinner than the 30 at startup.
