Usually this problem is caused by a misfire. First check to see if all of your spark plug wires are pushed on tight. If that is not the problem, look at all of your spark plugs. If they are fine, get a volt meter and test all of your spark plug wires.

In my case, I washed the engine and some water got into one of the spark plug holes. We blew it out with an air compressor and my car was good as new!

Idles up and down and hesitates under a load

Without a steady idle rate, its bound to act up when there s load on it cos with the fluctuation the idle might be too low at some point. Things to look at will be the idle control solenoid, throttle body, MAF sensor, check if carbon tracked then clean out throttle body with carbeurator cleaner.

99 cabrio starts ok but dies when idling at stop light, hesitates under load sometimes also. intermittant idle fluxuation.

My first guess would be a bad idle air control valve if an inspection shows nothing apparent.
