If Automatic, it's likely the linkage from the shift lever to the transmission is out of adjustment, and or the bushings on the same linkage need replacement.

    It's not automatic.

I would still look at linkages in the transmission. Heat "moves" metal. If out of adjustment, it can make the difference between work and "not work". I'd also double check transmission gear lube level.

Acts like the transmissions slipping AFTER it gets warm, when its cool it shifts great?

Check you have enough transmission fluid, does it surge when changing up when warm? When checking fluid level run gear shift through gears 3 times to circulate fluid place in park then check level do this with engine running and parking/handbrake on. If you don't run shift through gears before checking level dipstick will give false reading.....usually saying you have enough but when fluid has to circulate there won't be and hence trouble with gear change when hot.

Loss of power when the engine gets hot. need to change to a lower gear to continue

It would be a good idea to stop and check why the engine is getting hot instead of continually driving it . The CPU is going into limp mode and that should be telling you to investigate before it becomes very expensive.

Problem changing gears when hot. ok when cold!

It will be best to get someone to check the hydraulics of the clutch. That is a common issue.
Get a workshop to drain the gearbox oil and flush the system. A tell tale may come from the drained oil if the tranny is near end of life.

Well i got a 1994 mercury sable i checked the transmission fluid and it was fine but didnt know that the car engine had to be hot before checking the transmission fluid. i drove about 80-100 miles then...

If you have topped up the fluid whilst hot and it still has this problem then you have a gearbox fault hence the check light. It seems suspicious to me that the last owner told you the light was nothing. Some gearboxes have a filter you can change out which can solve gear changing faults.

I have a Fiat Palio 2002 and off late I find the gear shift getting stuck - means I cannot change gear when the engine is running. The gear is smooth when the engine is off.

the clutch plate is burnt and needs replacing.. Thats why it works when the car is cool or aint running. as soon as it gets hot,, the seal of the metal has burnt out.. meaning the metal binds making it hard to shift.. Change the clutch play,, you'll be fine!

Chrysler voyage automatic transmission issue

The geabox fluid needs changing, if the gear changes seem jerky changing up and down, the gearbox needs to be refurbished.
