01 Elantra temp gauge on red after 5min from cold. New CTS and thermostat, both hoses hot, hot heater, fans on, No leaks or coolant smell. Coolant barely circulates. Any suggestions?

i would think there is an air lock in the coolant system , have you run the engine whilst at stand still and opened the heater control to the hot position and leave to run for 10 mins or so , let cooldown then check coolant level

Can't figure out why my car is overheating


You may have an air pocket and not allowing the engine to cycle coolant. Bleed the coolant system. You also might have a water pump that is starting to fail as in rotting fins that push coolant. Rare, but possible.
Most likely Air pocket in coolant system if it has never over heated.
Also something else can cause air pockets......
A very common problem on Subaru's are their head gaskets fail due to aged engine coolant that damages these gaskets. External coolant from head gasket leaks are going to need to get checked. Check out images on a search to see how it would look. but look along the head and engine block mating surface for wetness. Should be dry. Check to verify the difference from oil black or brown or gold, VS coolant which is green usually. Coolant has a sweet smell as well.

To check for an internal head gasket leaks, check spark plugs for the typical steamed cleaned spark plug. Again google an image of spark plug burning coolant. Very distinct look to it.

sounds like the thermostat is stuck shut..unless the head gasket is blown somewhere.. it will pump the antifreeze level down to form an air pocket.. this will cause overheating constantly check each cylinder for even compression..the lowest reading will most likely be the blown cylinder..

I have a 2004 Elantra, the temp gauge goes up to 3/4 within 5 minutes of driving...and remains there...never overheats...just stays at that high hot temp ...there is enough coolant and the fans are...


The sensor for the gauge could be faulty.
The thermostat could also be faulty, there is a small window between the thermostat opening at 195 and the coolant boiling at 220.

REPLACE THERMOSTAT.MAKE SURE COOLANT SUPPLY PIPE OR COOLANT RETURN PIPE NOT STOPPED UP AND YOU HAVE ENOUGH COOLANT IN THE SYSTEM.REPLACE THERMOSTAT.CRANK ENGINE UP AND LET IDLE UNTIL WARM UP KEEP EYES ON TEMPERATURE GAUGE. WHEN ENGINE THERMOSTAT OPEN COOLANT HOSE SHOULD BE HOT.IF NOT TURN OFF ENGINE.USE LARGE RAG WAIT A WHILE BEFORE REMOVING RADIATOR CAP CHECK TO SEE IF COOLANT LEVEL DROPPING IF SO ADD MORE COOLANT.CRANK ENGINE UP UNTIL THERMOSTAT OPENS UP.HOSE WILL GET HOT.IF STILL COLD CHECK COOLANT LEVEL.ONCE YOU AIR OUT COOLANT SYSTEM RADIATOR HOSES WILL GET HOT SO YOU WILL GET HEAT.IF COOLANT LOW YOU WONT GET NO HEAT.

Why my heater in 2000 plymouth breeze only gives a little heat? Could it be a hose ? I know it's not the thermostat,the blowers ar working. I am wonding if theres some hoses that could be leaking?I don't...


it could be the cold air blend door or the thermostat is the engine temp up to the middle of the gauge or close to it if so then thermostat is ok if not then go ahead and replace it.

My Cadillac Is Running Hot


First thing to check is your coolant level. Make sure you have water or antifreeze i your coolant jug as well as your rediator. If they are both full, there are a couple things that might be wrong, but you will need some mechanical skills to replace them. Check your water pump as well as your thermostat. The Thermostat is located under the upper rediator hose where it connects into the block. The water pump is located directly behind the fan.

there are two sensors on that cooling system, one for the gauge or light in the car the other to turn on the fans at operating tempature. to test for a thermostat issue, as the car comes up to temp check to see if the upper and lower radiaror hoses are the same temp, (laser thermoter recomended) i use my hands. if one is hot and one is cold than a thermostat is stuck closed. and yes a leak can cause a problem with both the temp sensor and the thermostat.

2000 Elantra Overheating


First when vehicle is cold like in the morning check and make sure that the vehicle has enough coolant/ antifreeze in radiator and reservoir. If coolant is need use a 50/50 mixture of water and antifreeze. You will need some time to do this let car run at idle until the temp guage is in the middle NOT+ normal operating temperature. At this point if the thermostat should be in the open position. Let vehicle run and check to make sure that radiator fan comes on. This should come on when guage is about midway/half way. If temperature rises above half going to h/hot and fan doesn't come on, you either have a BAD FAN BAD FAN SWITCH BAD FAN RELAY OR BLOWN FAN SWITCH FUSE. You will need to check all of the following I will help if its needed. If fan comes on and doesn't go off and vehicle continues to get hot even with fan running. Feel radiator hoses and see if the lower radiator hose is cool/cold. If it is you have thermostat that stuck closed. Replace thermostat and fix problem. If all the above is good and vehicle continues to over heat. THE BAD NEW IS THAT YOU MAY HAVE A BLOWN HEAD GASKET /CRACKED HEAD /BROKEN WATER JACKET. Basically you will need a HEAD JOB at least a head gasket. ONe tell tail sign of this is oil looking like milkshake/chocolate milk-a creamish while residue in oil or antifreeze. Heat gauge shows hot , have to add antifreeze although no leak


Very common fault is head gaskets.  causing coolant consumption and bubbles in radiator.  Run vehicle, have a friend accelerate once or twice hard, while you smell exhaust for sweet smell of burning coolant.
