Question about Cars & Trucks
The Golf Cart is a Club Car 1996 model. When I go down a hill and take my foot off the gas the engine normally stops and holds cart back somewhat as it is supposed to. When I reach the bottom and step on the gas the engine should restart and continue the journey. About 2 years ago it began this problem. When the annual service was done the crankcase was full of oil and gas from this activity. Changed oil and all was find for over a year. This past fall's service and oil change did not cure the problem and now it occurs even on small downhills, not just the long one in my driveway. When it wont start after going down hill I have to leave it sit for 10-20 minutes and then it is fine until the next down hill. If I put the car in neutral and coast downhill then stop at the bottom and put it in drive the engine starts and works fine.

This isn't a definite fix, but it may be that the gasoline in your tank is 'sloshing' forwards and backwards and your sensour is getting readings when the gasoline is in different positions in your tank. The connection is actually above your gasoline tank and you'll have to take off the tank harnesses and drop the tank if you want to check to see if the connection became slightly loose, otherwise you can just fill your gas tank and reset your temporary milage gage (that's the little black button near your RPM meter) and remember how many miles you get per tank.

The trannys on the vw's are weird, they actually have a brain which tells the tranny what to do, when to switch gears under the driving conditions etc. Is thair a check engine light on? when is the last time you had a tranny service done on it? Also, it sounds even weirder, but is your alternator ok, is it putting out the proper volts to the battery? the alternator not charging the system can lead to alot of weird acting issues.

This car won't start unless the gear is in the P position. Some times the sensor that tells the computer that the gear is in the P position doesn't make a good contact and the car won't start. Move the gear backwards and forwards until it makes a good contact and the car will start again.
