Replacing SAM Module can I reprogram a used unit from the exact same year/model?

Was told I can't use anything but a brand new part ($500) but I'm seeing them on line used for a lot less!

97 XJ6L BCM replacement Do I need the dealer to reprogram this module? I have been told that some do and some dont'

These modules are pre programmed so they will be plug and play provided you replace it with the exact same part number on your module. Most US spec vehicles had the same unit from 1995-1997

4: learn that some engines even same 1.6L displacement had 2 head types that year. or series of years.
my car here, has 3 belts sold for it, 2 are wrong, per above.
no belt brand told just 164 code (gates?)

3s-fse =1987 to 2000 year made. no car model told what can go wrong, answer ALL. that.
DOHC engine 2 cams. CR = 9.8 (3S-FC, 3S-FE, 3S-FSE)

I have a Lexus IS 250 - 2006 model. The vehicle won't start when you depress the engine start button. Had a diagnosis done and found out that the ECU communications failed. After another thorough...

replace the ECU ( ECM ) with another unit
you will need to get one from another exact same vehicle and there should not be any other problems other than the immobilizer which you can get reprogrammed or have the keys reprogrammed to the ECM
The unit getting hot and draining the battery indicates that it has failed and has to be replaced
Wreckers / junk yards that dismantle your make of vehicle will have comparable units st a reasonable price ( probably an arm but you will keep your leg)
or there are companies that can recondition your existing unit or sell you an service exchange unit for around 2/3 the price of a new genuine unit
