Error code p1296. vehicle has been randomly stalling when accelerator not depressed. wait about 5 minutes and will restart. HAVE changed fuel filter, cap, rotor, plugs, wires. when it stalls it does...

but can you save the stall, with a fast right foot.
when it stalls do any lamps die in dash or others?
12vdc to the EFI system is the first check.
loss of power, kills EFI dead as a door nail. so .../?????
and the fast foot trick is next , always.
1,2, test 1, test 2 in 3 seconds at stall.

fast foot"
1: easy, (idle air loss, ISC stuck)
2: tad hard, (egr stuck open ,clean it) or flooding.???
3: impossible , lost spark,. or lost fuel pressure.

and rail pressure is dont with a gauge
all other ways are useless, , unless dry.
only 30psi or more is valid. not less.
no injector runs right below 28psi. (read the specs)

my new jeep runs at 60psi. 3.8L
to check rail pressure ,step one is to get the spec.
the FSM cover this.
My FSM shows no V8s, is that a typo.????? sure...
see the wiki and do tell REAL engine.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeep_Cherokee_%28XJ%29

if you can not tell real engine, i can not tell real specs.
not ever.
USA car, or export???? what COUNTRY ?
again, what car, what country what engine?
cant fix cars , if you can not identify the engine.
here is the list
all tell end if 1996.

on any 1996 , I6, 4.0 engines
1296 means. (not other engines!!!! or cars)
No 5 Volts to MAP Sensor
the 5v line is shorted ,or cut, or the ECU 5vdc power reg, is dead.

with the bad the engine EFI will be hopelessly stuck in limphome.
TPS dead, etc. and will run like craap
and stall.
P1 is a factory code, and you MUST mach code to exact engine, year and maker. or data you read is wrong.
P0 codes are federal codes. and are universal.
P mean powertrain errors.

Vin (V,T,U)
Fuel Pressure (gasoline) 55-62 psi Vin (Z)
Fuel Pressure (ethanol) 48-54 psi

Hope this helps

My 2001 Saturn, will start but not stay running. We have checked the fuel pump and all fluids. Did a compression check this morning, fuel injectors are not injecting fuel into fuel rail. Why is engine...

You said, 'fuel injectors are not injecting fuel into fuel rail' but it's my understanding that the fuel rail gasoline is supplied by the pump, and the fuel injectors just pulse to allow fuel to get to the cylinders. I would check out the fuel delivery problem further. Check for pressure in the fuel rail that is within specs.

If not, then the pump or fuel pressure regulator may be the problem. Check the fuse for the fuel pump. If good, then the pump may be bad in the tank.

Good luck on this.

Fuel system not getting gas correctly

Make sure that there is signal at individual injector. The injector needs to have a signal so it can open the valve to shoot fuel in each cylinder. You can buy the NOID to hook up at each injector. When cranking the engine, these NOIDs will light up sequentially then you have signal. Next thing is to check if you have enough fuel pressure in the line. If it is not then check the fuel rate( the amount of gas delivered by the fuel pump by minute). It the fuel pump rate is meeting the spec then change the fuel pump regulator, If the fuel pump rate is not meeting the spec then change the fuel filter. Repeat the check to see if there is an improvement in the fuel pressure. If it doesn't improve then change the fuel pump. This is the logic of troubleshooting. However, considering the time and labor hours when doing DIY, I just replace everything since the parts are not costing more than the time spending in taking the parts in and out. Good luck.

2000 Suzuki Esteem (1.8) Fuel System

No SYMPTOMS stated, (sadly)
the J18 engines, twin cam, chain drive cam, nice motor.
an under stroked, J20. it is.. and share most parts.

alldata.com covers it.... and all cars... mostly.
for sure esteems (used books real off Ebay, if lucky, do a watch on ebay)?
and for sure Suzuki, the FSM is $4 to read. and posted 100 time here. (more ) this the real deal, (McCoy)
https://suzukipitstopplus.com/Products/1182-2000-esteem-service-manual.aspx

the filter, and pump , no need to replace pump unless
it has 12vdc to IT CRANKING< and filter is new. AND, pressure is out of spec. (see spec, below)
a gauge is $20 and way more easy to use than a bath in gasoline
for sure.and a $10 voltmeter from walfart.

now the Esteem secret (just in CASE)
"Remove rear seat cushion, rear right seat back, right side sill scuff, right front partition trim and right rear door opening trim."
bingo, a secret access port.

now the spec.
31-37 ?idle PSI
this is the fuel pressure at the rail, at idle.
cranking is 6 PSI more
driving up hill, wide open throttle, pressure rises to 3- 6psi more that idle. (near)
if pressure is low, check for 12vdc to pump, first.
then make sure the FPR works.
they can stick open closed or jam. and it must work right. or fueling will be ALL wrong. (cars this old FPR love to fail)
this engine ECU has program revision (flash) that causes
pump to not run key on, (read TSBs on same at suzuki...)

so, crank it and check pressure cranking if not starting?
or if it does start (you never said) then check at idle
and WOT. the PSI ( then gun throttle see pressure jump way higher) if all this pans out, forget pump, and FPR.

did you scan the PCM yet, that be like first..
all scan tools (real) work on 2000 cars.... all do.

Gasoline presure

Fuel pressure at the shredder valve should be 62 to 65 PSI with fuel pump primed (engine not running) and will drop about 5 psi when the engine running. Good luck, any other readings the engine will not start.
