Can the camshaft position sensor be a problem to start the car

Nope, it will make it crank more before starting, but the cam sensor just tells the computer what stroke the engine is on, the crank sensor is what the computer fires off of. You need to figure out what your car does not have. If it has no spark look to the coils and see if they are getting the signal to fire the plugs. If so, you probably need coils, if not look to the crank sensor. see if you have voltage where you need it. If you have fire check for fuel pressure, if you have fuel pressure and fire make sure the injectors are firing. If it seems you have everything make sure the engine is in time.

98 ford f150 has 4.6 motor cranks but no power to coils . Could this be a crank censor.

with any scan tool attached, you crank for 5seconds
and the tool will tell you what is or is not bad.
eg: if no DTC for Crank or cam sensors, its NOT THEM.
any OBD2 scan tool sold in USA works on this car. 1998,
any. the trick is.
1: keyon
2: crank for 5 full SECONDS.
3: release key , not off, wait for 1min.
4: see the DTC codes?????????
the PCM makes spark if the PCM is happy with the crank sensor
then it then uses what is called and igitor to fire the coils

better is to read the FSM on this car. (BOOK from dealer)

crank +cam >>>> PCM >>> ignitor the coil, the spark plus.
this is the path, note how the PCM is in the middle.
if it sees either sensor mess up 1 out of 10 times, it pukes, DTCS
like a swiss watch.

Car wont start. it is not getting any fire. i have replaced fuel pump, computer, cam sensor, crank sensor an the sensor on the flywheel.

have you pulled a spark plug to see if they are getting wet with fuel? Have you got power to the ignition coils with the ignition switch in the on position? The coils get power and are then grounded by the ECU. if power to coils, then replace coils.

Spark plug in cyl. # 4 is wet and saturated with gasoline . does not seem to be firing . engine is running extremely rough . I cannot see under intake manifold to get to spark plug wire . is removal of...

i`m assuming this is a 4 cylinder motor.no you don`t take the intake off to get to the coils.you can get to the coils from under neath the car.have you checked to see if the plug wire is allowing spark to the plug itself.if its only #4 getting wet then the plug could be defective as the coil that fires #4 also fires #1 cylinder.its rare that the coil will fire one side and not both.(it does happen though).there are 2 coils at the back of the motor that sit on the ignition module.you could have a bad ignition module also.the crank sensor is attached to the ignition module on the motor side and the sensor sits in the motor and if you have to remove the module be careful that you don`t brake the crank sensor when removing the unit a the sensor gets brittle from the heating and cooling of the motor over time, also the sensor seal gets stuck in the bore.

My 89 cutlass will turn over but wont start. all the electronics are working but spark plugs won't fire. i tested them and they're good just won't fire while in my car.

check to make sure there is power to the coils, if power change coils.Yes, it could be the ignition module, but it could also be a loose wire connection, the crank sensor, a bad ground, or a bad ignition switch.
Make sure power is getting to the coil pack with the switch in run. coils do get burnt out after a while.

The car will crank but does not have fire going to the coil pack

did you do a spark test?
This could be a number of things, your crankshaft sensor, coils or ignition module.
check the coils
  1. Remove the ignition coil(s).
  2. Using an ohmmeter, check the resistance between the primary terminals on the underside of the coil. The resistance should be 0.50-0.90 ohms.
  3. Check the resistance between the secondary terminals. It should be 5,000-10,000 ohms.
  4. If the coil failed either test, replace the coil.
