Question about 2000 Chevrolet Prizm

How do I get the wheel bearing out of a 2000 Chevy Prizm without using a compress machine for some reason I can't find the way

Do you have tools and work on things like this or do you want to start .
With out tools you don't stand a chance not trying to be mean but its the kind of thing that is complex it all has to be done in a curtian order with torque spec's to tighten parts once again in a curtian order.
At least you are smart enough to know their is a problem and that will save you money everytime. And it will not cost that much if you can tell the guy what is wrong its a wheel bearing find an honest mechianic its not that big of a job

could be a few things , wheel balance , wheel bearings , top / bottom ball joints , track rod ends , will need to be looked at by a mechanic to find the actual cause

Chevy prizm 2001 whining


What is whining? Could be several things. Here are a couple of ideas.... Check Power Steering fluid level and transmission fluid level. However, if it is making noise while driving, it could be a wheel bearing. Good Luck.

Bad front wheel bearings


I have a 95 Prizm and replaced my bearings. the front wheel bearings are a real pain and requires a press.

loosen the half shaft nut. jack the car up and secure with jack stand, take the wheel off, remove the nut on the half shaft, disconnect the strut from the hub, disconnect the lower ball joint, disconnect the tie rod end (i use a pitman arm puller), you should now be able to remove the hub. unless you have a press and press skills take the hub and new bearing kit to a machine shop with a press and make sure they install the new seals and retaining clip on back side of hub. when installing hub with new bearing make sure you use the right torque specs..

alternate idea, pull the hubs from a junk yard and replace bearings on these, install on your vehicle it minimizes vehicle down time

final thoughts, use penetrating oil on all fasteners days before starting work and day of work. might be a good time to replace lower ball joins

Are you talking about preload? if they are separate, grease-able, and really packed with grease(no skimping). Yes. Ido not know the ft-lbs preload rating off hand, but that can be found in a Chilton/Hanes Manual

Front wheel bearings


to remove the hub and bearing assy. you need to remove the tire and wheel, brakes, cv axle, then unbolt the lower ball joint, and remove the lower strut mounting bolts. I believe theirs two on this model after removing the hub & bearing assembly the hub must be removed by using a hydraulic press to press the hub from inside the bearing as they are a machined fit. then typically there is a large snap ring holding the bearing into its bore that needs to be removed before the bearing can be pressed out at the hydraulic press install is reverse of removal.
