Sounds like you need a new shifter assembly, or the brake switch. Most likely will be the shifter though if you can move it out of park with the override.

This is the best I was able to do. If you post a picture on fixya, it can be 150KB or smaller but I broke it up into 6 different pictures but it's as clear as I was able to get it to be that size. this should be in your owners manual if you have one. If you do not and would like a copy, email me at email@example.com with your make, model and year and I will be happy to email you a copy. You will be able to make it bigger if you do so you will be able to see it better. Don't worry there is no cost. I hope this helps and good luck.
