SOURCE: ticking noise from engine

This sounds like the valve lifter tapping. Make sure you have the correct amount of oil in engine case first. If so............This noise isnt anything that is going to make the car blow sky high, but the valve train needs to be adjusted when you get time and $$$$$...RC

SOURCE: There is a ticking/knocking noise coming from

Have your valve clearance checked for that noise. As well as the diesel smell, fuel lines must be checked for
leaks. If your car is emitting heavy smoke, and it seems to loose power going uphill, your engine must
be due for overhauling. However, if your problem is just
knocking and diesel smell, valve clearance adjustment
and fuel line check up will correct the problem.

SOURCE: ticking noise

you need to give us more info about your car, based on your info i would say one of your valve lifters is bleeding off pressure when the engine is off, you can try putting 1/2 qt. of automatic transmission fluid in your engine oil, atf is a good cleaning agent and may clean your lifters up. i have done it many times

My 2001 740i bmw makes a ticking noise when idleing and if i turn on the air conditioner it gets louder

First off, have a good look at the engine and the a/c, try to find any leaked fluids or stains, could find the problem. If you hear a hissing or wheezing sound it may simply be a gasket or tiny hole in a hose / vacuum line. Open the hood while at idle, see if you can echo locate the noise ( with and without a/c.running) Be careful to avoid the belts and fans. If you still can't locate it. The only other thing that comes to mind is the belts themselves, if one is worn of frayed it can make a noise every time it passes over a pulley. One last thought, make sure you're using the right octane gas, too low and the engine will knock and / or tick. Hope some of that helps you, Grim

Pound ticking noise when my 99 durango starts goes away after the engine warms up

The ticking noise could be a faulty hydrulic valve lifter. When last was the oil & filter changed, it coul be that the oil is thick and not going through to the lifters and when it warms up the oil is thin. It could be that the engine is need of an overhaul as 148.000 miles is 238.182 Kilometers and that is a hi milage.

Sounds like a rotating electrical device not connected to the drive belt, like a rad fan. Not sure if this engine has a vacuum pump, but that could also be what's making the noise.

Fan noise when A/C is turned on 2007 Yaris Sedan

You may have some type of debris iside the fan blades on the car. Does the noise sound like a vibrating/drumming/whirring noise? If so, pull the fan motor out & look for debris. Common problem.
