After insuring that ALL of the screws/bolts/nuts are loose/off, GENTLY tap on the sides with a RUBBER mallet until it pops loose.

the 4,0l and the 4.6 northstar have the same problem with head gaskets, the head bolts strip or stretch in the aluminum block causing little compress of the head gaskets, the combustion pressure pushes past and enters the coolant.this air in the coolant builds up and pushes the antifreeze out causing an overheat situation.recommend head studs not head bolts..again gm missed the boat or did it on purpose to generate work for the dealerships...

How to replace valve cover gasket on 4.0L olds aurora

Hello.
What you want to do is find the valve cover, take the 8 bolts i believe out of the valve cover. You may have to pull the valve cover off with a small flat head screw driver to release it from the old oil and grease thats on the motor. It gets pretty caked on there from the heat and what not. Once the valve cover is off, make sure you dont get any dirt down in the motor, this is very crucial. You now have to get the old gasket off the valve cover. I recommend you getting the old stuff off with a paper towel and a razor blade. Make sure its 100% clean as your can get it. Make sure its off the motor and the valve cover.
At this point you take and bolt the valve cover on with the new gasket and your finished! Hope this helped!

Seat wont move back

Open the door and pull back the boot that covers the wires. You should be able to push it into the door to give a good look and room to splice the broken wires. Put the boot back when done.

if you fallow the hose comming out of air filter assembley it should lead you to the pcv valve the hose goes to the pcv and should come right off then you take the pcv valve out of the valve cover by just pulling it out and replace it with a new one
