Question about BMW 325i

1 Answer

It did start and then shut right off and now it will not start again. I have changed the fuel relay and probably need the System main relay and the Oxygen sensor heater relay?

I do believe I will need all the relays for this car?

I had the same problem with My 1990 F150 300 6cylinder 4x4.....I cahnged all the same things you did, finally I sprayed a can of Gumout through the throttle body and it worked and ran great. Now I add fuel injector cleaner to the gas and a regular clean with the gumout and the problem has'nt come back. Good Luck to you and hope it works!

SOURCE: New fuel pump but no gas to the fuel rail

When I first posted, I did not read "comments" after reading what you have done and our results, it seems as though the engine control system "thinks" the engine is running when it is not. I don't believe this is a key switch problem, otherwise if you turned the key to "on" it would flood the engine. Therefore there is a strong possibility that the engine control unit is staying "hot" even when shut down, permitting the pump relay &injectors to receive trigger signals .BUT, I would also take a look at the pressure regulator on the fuel rail. flow through there may be causing the pump to stay on if too much fuel is being bypassed. And, again...did you check codes???

SOURCE: Which relay is the fuel pump relay?

The fuel pump relay switch, if that is what you are looking for, is actually a red button hidden underneath the hood latch. We just had to do the same thing and that will fix it. Just press the red button and you should be fine.

I have a 95 Honda Accord 2.2 starts and dies right away. If I turn the key all the way off and back on again it start right back up again but shuts back off

Probably bad fuel pump or relay. Use a pressure test gauge to check for low pressure. Can also be electrical, such as bad ignition switch, ignition relay.

2000 mazda 626 new fuel pump still not geting fuel new relay also

Well it definitely sounds like you have a fuel supply issue with the starting fluid check. The fuel pump relay is controlled by the PCM with input from the immobilizer system. Power for both the coil and switch within the fuel pump relay is supplied thru the Main relay. I would first remove the fuel pump relay, turn key to on position and use a test light to see if you have power/voltage to 2 of the 4 pins of the fuel pump relay plug in connector. If you do then the main relay and all related fuses are ok. You could then bypass the relay altogether by using a paper clip or other jumper wire to short between pin 30 and 87 or 87a on the relay connector. Pin number is located typically on the relay near the electrical plugs but since you have a new relay is probably not worth the test. The last thing is to see if the relay is being energized by the PCM by grounding the magnetic coil circuit. This is most probable. If your security light is flashing on cluster display then PCM is not grounding the relay as part of the security system. Now would be the time to ask it you are using a new key or different key to start the vehicle. The key has a chip inside that needs to be programmed for the engine or immobilizer computer to recognize as a valid and authorized key to start the vehicle. It immobilizer and pcm do not recognize the key as being authorized to be used then it will not power up the fuel pump relay and kill the fuel supply system.

Its a 1993 dodge colt vista se we shut off the engine & know it just turns over but wont start

Probably lost either spark or fuel to the engine. Try starting it with starting fluid into the intake. If nothing happens, check for spark on a spark plug wire- probably the ignition system. If it runs for a second or two with starting fluid, it is a fuel problem-check fuel pressure to see if the fuel pump is still working.

Did you check the fuel pump relay ? The relay gets power from a fuse and also from the PCM relay. The computer grounds the relay to turn it on for 3 seconds when you turn the key on, then only after the computer "sees" RPM or oil pressure.

Where is the main fuel relay located

Stand by the gas tank while someone turns the key to ON. Listen for the fuel pump to come on for a second or two as it should. It will only come on for about two seconds to pressurize the fuel system, then shut off and only come on again when the engine is cranked. If you hear it, then the pump is working. Hence, you would smell gas after cranking the car a bit. If no sound from the pump, look for the relay in the power distribution box under the hood. The box's cover should have a diagram for fuel pump location. Or your owner's manual might show it.

2000 vw cabrio runs normal and shuts down, takes 5 to 20 minutes to restart, engine cranks but doesnt start, changed ignition coil, pulled diagnostic codes getting short to ground codes on cylinder...

On some models, the Engine Control unit has a power supply relay. These relays some times get internal dry solder points. After driving for some time the the solder will get hot and separate. When it cools down it makes contact again. You will have to replace this relay or open it up and re- solder the solder joints. The relay is usually located on the main relay station in position 3. the relay station is located behind the right dash panel.[right hand drive vehicles]. You may need to refer to a manual for your specific model to find the exact location of the relay.

yea you have no fuel and sound like a bad harness and the gm's are know for there fuel pump harness's! did you change it when you changed the pump? there is a lose connection somewhere in the fuel delivery system and it's pretty simply! i would check the fuel pump relay on the left hand side of the engine compartment and maybe even put power to the pump at the relay position "b" on the fuel pump relay harness and there should be a one pin connector to put power to also connected to the same position on the relay "b" the wire should be tan and white! good luck

Fuel pump relay & fuel pump

when you turn the key on the pump should run to purge the system . so now you have fuel pressure for starting. this stage lasts about 10 seconds then the fuel pump doesnt turn on again till the computer see's oil pressure then turns the pump on. if the inertia switch has been activated it wont send the first amount of fuel.
