SOURCE: my transmission wont shift from 2nd to 3rd gear

did you drop the pan replace the filter and add four to five quarts,If still a problem try doing a full transmission flush at a quick lube.
A transmission flush with Lucas trans tune up will probably fix your non shift issue, try this first before looking into a new tranny !

SOURCE: transmission wont shift

check the kickdown/throttle valve cable. It may be bound up and stuck in the maximum position giving you extremely late shifts.

There ISN"T any modulators or vac lines on any Chrysler automatics

SOURCE: automatic tranny will not shift out of low gear. check engine on

you will need to replace your transmission, this is a very common problem with the ultradrive transmissions.

if you have added any fluid to the transmission chances are it was the wrong type.

My car is a 2006 forenza it wont shift into overdrive unless i push the hold button but if you leave it on and slow down it has no power any help mine

you sound like guy that works FSM free,?
no books. why do that ,? (pain)
i guess you get scan codes. and above is wrong. P0703. is it.?
post the full codes, all of them all DTCs stored.
then look them up in the FSM and what does it says.
it tells you, to do more tests. to find true cause.

my guess, you never said
car drives prefect,
the CEL glows, or the scan tools shows MIL active.
right>?
the hold is for ice.
the hold prevents down shifts (dangerous) on ICE.

with most feature of the TCM (tranny brain) lots of failures
cross over. to shifting.
lots.
like engine overheated
engine overloaded.
engine speed,
brakes on or off.
cruise controls
traction. and ABS.
direction controls. (if present)

so stop ignoring those codes and fix what it told you to fix
fix the what is it, P0703...
???

the recall (sic) TSB TS-09-03129R
summary:Suzuki vehicles: automatic transmission shift lever is loose in the shift gate and/or ignition key cannot be removed. The transmission gear shift lever does not hold firmly to the left of the shift gage as expected.

and the 703, dont lie. it told you its fails and you ignored this fact.

http://www.aboutautomobile.com/DTC/P0703

it's bad, replace or recalibrate the switch.
and on newer cars the switch may need calibration after the replacement.
owning a Chapter 11 car company car is a PITA.

id sell it. i would and get a Toyota.

How do replace a speed sensor on an 1996 infinty I-30 ?

1996,

ok cars have 2 to 5 speed sensors.

so saying that means nothing.

but 734 does, first post ever with speed and code in one.

usually its not.

1996 what , kia? or Infiniti? perplexed i am.

734

that is tranny, code, so why condemn the sensor

i do take it off and clean the black magnetic crap on the end every time. do so , often. and win.

Trouble Code Conditions:

NOTE: If DTC U1000 is displayed with this DTC, first perform the trouble diagnosis for DTC U1000. Diagnostic trouble code P0734 is detected when A/T cannot be shifted to the 4th gear position even if electrical circuit is good.

Possible Causes:

  • Shift solenoid valve A (On stick.)

  • Shift solenoid valve B (On stick.)

  • Shift solenoid valve C (On stick.)

  • Pressure control solenoid valve A (On stick.)

  • Forward and direct clutch assembly

  • U/D clutch

  • U/D brake

  • 2nd coast brake

  • One-way clutch No.1

  • Hydraulic control circuit

(so the FSM then has you conduct many tests to find true cause.)_

A/T are very very complex animals.

did you connect a scan tool that can SEE ALL factory DTC codes>

if not , you are blind..

cheap readers dont do that. they blind you.

the TCM can tell that 4th is not attained

by seeing the VSS speed too slow, that means the tranny is slipping

or is not in 4th gear, or the VSS fibbing its buns off (clean it , reset code, and drive)

You need to have the trans ECU reset back into its adaptive learning mode. The new trans is shifting harder because the trans ECU still thinks the old one is in the car. The ECU learns your driving habits and compensates clutch wear to provide a smooth consistent shift. Your old trans had a lot of clutch wear so to keep the shift quality it allowed more pressure to the clutch packs. So you now have a trans with less wear on it and the shifts are hard. This is something that removing battery power wont reset. It has to be done with a diagnostic tester. Some trans controllers will begin to compensate on their own over a period of time but I don't yours is one of them.

You need to get the codes & then look
up what they are telling you & component
test the system, based on the codes & reference
material to follow

You do not replace any parts, until a problem is
found, thru testing & a part is understood & fails a test

Code 81 is brake switch input circuit. The being stuck in third is a limp mode because of a hard code being set.If you repair or replace the brake switch issue you should be fine on the shifting issue.Good luck and let me know if i can help.

Theres a button on the automatic stick what is it

That may be your overdrive button, try cruising at a steady safe speed and depress the button, you will feel a shifting motion on transmission and OD light may come ON on dashboard, this shifts your tranny to a lower gear when more power is needed without pressing gas pedal so hard that passing gear kicks in.
