How do i get a bolt out from bottom rear spring housing

Done one side but bolt on other side keeps turning n=but wont come out

Try putting a flat blage screw driver behind the bolt head
and pry it out as you turn the socket on the bolt head.
This assuming the threads are recessed. Otherwise check to see if some sort of nut that was welded to the frame brock loose and is
turning as you turn thr bolt. Cutting it always works, too!

The way u are explaining it seems it got free and the nut's teeth are blunt now. u will probably have to cut the nut for removing the bolt ... try some lubricant put some more force otherwise cut the nut.

HOW TO REMOVE AND REPLACE STRUTS TO A 2005 FORD FOCUS


daley smiths, Before I take you through the procedure keep in mind that you can purchase what are called easy struts or quick struts. These units have the spring and upper bearing plates already installed and are quicker and much safer than just replacing the strut itself. So instead of just getting new struts, you are getting the whole assembly new. If you want to replace just the struts you will have to rent a spring compressor. Procedure for just the struts follows:
You don't mention whether you are replacing the front or rear struts but the procedure is pretty much the same for both. This is the procedure for the front struts. Jack up one side of car and remove the wheel. Place a jackstand under the vehicle frame to support it. Sometimes there are brake lines, sway bar links and ABS wires connected to the strut. Remove anything attached to the strut. You will see two large bolts holding the bottom of the strut. Remove the nuts only. The bolts are usually splined to keep them from moving so you will have to pound them out with a hammer. If the bolts are threaded all the way to the end then put the nut back on so it is flush with the end of the bolt.. This is so the threads are not damaged as you will need to reuse them. Some bolts are not threaded all the way so you wont have to worry about damaging the threads here. With the hood open you will see three nuts that are holding the top of the strut. Remove them one at a time. Hold the strut when removing the last one so it doesn't drop and damage any break lines or ABS wires. Remove the strut. Place part of the spring compressor on one side of the spring as close to the top and bottom as possible and hand tighten it. Do the same on the other side of the spring with the spring compressor part. Tighten the spring compressor one side at a time two turns at a time. BE VERY SURE THAT THE COMPRESSOR DOES NOT SHIFT WHEN DOING THIS. Keep doing this one side at a time until you can turn the upper bearing plate easily. Place a pair of vice grips as close as possible to the top of the strut shaft and tighten as much as possible. Remove the nut holding the upper bearing plate and remove the plate. Remove the vice grips and any rubber bushings and finally the spring and lower rubber bushing. BE VERY CAREFUL WITH SPRING AS YOU SET IT ASIDE. Place the lower bushing on the new strut and be sure that the spring seats properly on the strut. Replace the upper bushing and finally the bearing plate. Once again place the vice grips as high as possible on the new strut shaft and tighten as much as possible. Making sure the upper plate is properly aligned for reassembly to the vehicle tighten the upper bearing nut. Take the spring compressor off the spring using the same method of two turns at a time. Once again be sure it doesn't shift on you when doing this. Replace the strut back to the vehicle by reversing the procedure. One thing I forgot to mention. Because of the connections of the sway bar links and brake lines there is a right and left side strut so be careful when choosing which strut to put in.
The only difference for the rear struts are the way they are connected to the vehicle. The bottom will have one bolt and the top will have either one bolt accessable from inside the wheel well or have three nuts accessable from inside the trunk or under the panel in the rear window behind the rear seat. Can not get the cage off of the rear end of a dodge ram 2001 1500 2 wheel drive


If you have the rear differental housing cover, if you check the center of the 3rd member housing ,you will locate a shaft that runs through the center of the housing ,that has the spider gears at the top and bottom. That shaft is held in with a small bolt on the side [5/16 wrench to remove] ..Once the bolt is removed, position the 3rd member to let the
shaft fall out. Once the shaft is removed try to keep from turning the 3rd member or the spiders will fall out...Go to each wheel and push in on the out side of the wheel axle to remove the "C" clip inside the 3rd member and slade axle back to clear third member . Repeat the same on the other axle and that should allow you to remove the third member after the 4 bolts are
removed on the side bearings. Let me know if that helps

How do you change the rear struts on a 2001 Impala


Easiest way is to get the complete assembly from the parts house(spring included)
That way you don't have to worry about compressing the spring. 3 bolts under the rubber boot inside the trunk,2 bolts on the bottom of the strut.There is no alignment adjustment so don't worry about that. Should only take about an hour to change both sides.

I have opened the bleeder screw, actually taken it off completely. I have the brake line loosened to relieve any other pressure that might be on the caliper. The caliper absolutely will not come off and...


Remove cap from brake fluid resovoir.

Remove spring clamp from caliper (I made the mistake of not doing this when photographing)

Remove bolts from rear of pad housing (16mm bolt x2) These are situated top and bottom of drive shaft - be careful, theyre tight.

Remove housing from discs, this allows you to remove pads. You may need to prize them open slightly with a flat screwdriver. This will also help when putting in new, thicker pads. (see spring clamp as I mentioned above.)

Remove first pad (outside one)

Turn housing over, this cable is the pad sensor. Carefully remove this (I used WD40 to loosen) There is also a spring clamp to hold this sensor in place. Keep it.

Pop second pad out, this is on a clip so may need persausion with screwdriver.

Now pop new pad in, make sure the clips click right in.

This is where the pad sensor pushes in.

Put second pad in.

Spring clamp back in place.

Housing back into position, and replace 2x 16mm bolts, and tighten.

How do i change out my rear end


remove wheels calipers and rotors, remove rear cover and drain oil from diff, remove abs sensors if it has abs,remove axle shafts, this is done by removing the 8mm bolt holding the pin, slide pin out push axle in to remove c clip holding axle then slide out, do the same to other side, note dont spin diff or gears will fall out,dissconect driveshaft, next remove axle vent and unbolt brake hose from axle,leaving brake lines connected unclip them from axle housing, next support diff with jack, dissconect lower shock bolts and slide shocks to side, remove upper control arm bolts from diff, slowly lower diff to release spring tension now remove springs and remove lower arm bolts. lower diff and take out. reverse to install. hope this helps.

Rear shock


those should be struts on that and the top strut bolts are inside the trunk under the carpet. follow the strut tower to the top look in the trunk in that area should be 3 bolts. jack up that side nice and high with floor jack and use a jack stand for safety and to stabalize it let jack down some to put some weight on stand. then remove 3 bolts in trunk this will get the top loose. now you need to follow the strut tower to bottom of strut should be 2 bolts you may need an impact wrench or good long breaker bar for these are large bolts and i dont know what kind of strength you have. next take it to a shop to have them pull spring out of strut and put onto new strut. put back on your better off doing both sides at the same time then do an alignment. or your tires will be eaten to about nothing in a few months. now if you realy want to pull the spring off yourself you will need spring compressors they come in pairs. one goes on the top area of spring to compress it put the other same area but opposite side. must be damn careful if not done right you will loose an eye. and they hurt like the dickens. lol good luck.

Tried changing headlight bulb. I could not get the spring loose to get old bulb out. Now the dash lights and running tail lights do not work. I checked all fuses and they are ok. I don't know where to look...


Assembly removal is easy. In fact, because of the problem you encountered--getting that stupid retention spring off, I recommend removal of the entire housing. The two 10mm bolts on top of the headlight housing are the most obvious, but not so is the 10mm retaining nut near the bottom rear of the assembly. If it is the driver's side, you can remove the windshield washer fill tube to gain easier assess to the nut, or just work around it, up to you. The passenger side is a bit harder....you actually need to remove the air filter housing to gain access to the nut. Remove the air filter to see the bolts--remove and pull housing out. Hope this answers your question.

I have a 94 jeep wrangler front left axle seal bad. I took the left side apart and not sure how to get the seal back in. Do I need to open the inspection cover on the diff. and take the gears out?



Rear Axle Notes
  1. Raise and support vehicle.
  2. Remove rear wheels.
  3. Scribe alignment marks on propeller shaft and axle for proper assembly, then disconnect propeller shaft from axle.
  4. Disconnect the track bar from axle mounting bracket.
  5. Disconnect parking brake cable at equalizer.
  6. Disconnect shock absorbers at axle tubes.
  7. Disconnect hydraulic brake hose at rear axle Tee-fitting, then tape ends of hose and fitting to prevent contamination.
  8. Disconnect axle vent tube from axle.
  9. Remove U-bolts and tie plates.
  10. Loosen spring mounting bolts.
  11. If equipped, disconnect ABS wiring connections at axle.
  12. Support axle with suitable jack.
  13. Remove spring-to-shackle attaching bolts and lower spring to the floor.
  14. Remove axle assembly.
  15. Reverse procedure to install.

Front Axle Notes
  1. Raise and support vehicle at frame behind front springs.
  2. Remove front wheels.
  3. Scribe alignment marks on propeller shaft and axle yoke for proper assembly, then disconnect propeller shaft at axle yoke.
  4. Disconnect connecting rod at steering knuckles.
  5. Disconnect shock absorbers at axle housing.
  6. Remove stabilizer bar connecting links to spring tie plates attaching bolts, if equipped.
  7. Disconnect breather tube at axle housing.
  8. Disconnect stabilizer bar link bolts at spring clips.
  9. Remove disc brake calipers, rotors and brake shields.
  10. Remove U-bolts and tie plates.
  11. Support axle assembly with suitable jack to relieve spring tension.
  12. Loosen rear spring shackle to spring attaching bolts.
  13. Remove front spring shackle to spring attaching bolts and lower spring to floor.
  14. Remove axle from under vehicle.
  15. Reverse procedure to install.

Rear axle leaking


Block the front tires. Break the rear lugs loose. Jack up the rear of the truck at the center if possible. remove the wheels & brake drums. Remove the brake shoes,return springs & all the other hardware. Remove the differential cover & drain oil. If you have a posi the next step sucks. You need to remove the threaded pin from the housing & remove the axle retaining clips. All the while,being carefull of the spring in the posi unit. If no posi,then same procedure,minus the "pucker factor". After the axle is out,take a large flat blade screw driver or pry bar & pop the seal out. Keep in mind the axle bearing is probably gone too , so that's another procedure. Keep it apart,you'll be glad you did.

I need to know how to get to the rear suspension (tower)

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION Spring Rear
Removal
  1. Position a hoist under the rear axle housing, and raise the vehicle. Refer to Section 00-02 . Place jackstands under frame side rails.
  1. Remove rear stabilizer bar as outlined.
  1. Disconnect the lower studs of the two shock absorbers from the mounting brackets on the rear axle assembly .
  1. Unsnap the RH parking brake rear cable and conduit (2A635) from RH upper arm retainer before lowering the rear axle assembly .
  1. Lower the hoist and axle housing until the rear springs are released.
  1. Remove rear spring and rear spring center mounting insulators (5741) from vehicle.

Shock Absorber Removal
Raise the vehicle on a hoist. 1. To assist in removing the upper attachment on shock absorbers using a plastic dust tube, place an open end wrench on the hex stamped into the dust tube's metal cap. For shock absorbers with a steel dust tube, simply grasp the tube to prevent stud rotation when loosening the retaining nut.
  1. Remove the shock absorber retaining nut, washer, and insulator assembly from the stud on the upper side of the frame. Discard nut. Compress the shock absorber to clear the hole in the frame, and remove the inner insulator and washer from the upper retaining stud.
  2. Remove the self-locking retaining nut, and disconnect the shock absorber lower stud from the mounting bracket on the rear axle tube.
  3. Perform Shock Absorber Checks. Refer to Section 04-00 to determine shock absorbers performance.
Installation
  1. Properly prime the new shock absorber . Refer to Section 04-00 , Shock Absorber Checks.
  1. Place the inner washer and rear spring insulator (5536) on the upper retaining stud, and position the shock absorber so that the upper retaining stud enters the hole in the frame. While holding the shock absorber in this position, install a new rear spring insulator , washer and nut assembly on the upper side of the upper frame. Be sure to seat the rear spring insulator in the frame attaching hole. Tighten nut to 34-46 Nm (25-34 lb-ft).
  1. Extend the shock absorber , and place the lower stud in the mounting bracket hole on the rear axle assembly housing. Install a new self-locking retaining nut. Tighten nut to 76.5-103.5 Nm (56-76 lb-ft).
  1. Lower vehicle.

Removal
Refer to the illustration in Description and Operation. NOTE: To improve rear axle assembly noise and vibration concerns, the rear suspension should be fastened to the frame and rear axle assembly at the curb height position.
NOTE: If one rear suspension lower arm requires replacement, also replace the opposite rear suspension lower arm .

  1. Mark rear suspension shock absorber relative to protective sleeve with the vehicle in a static, level ground condition.
  1. Remove rear stabilizer bar as outlined.
  1. Raise the vehicle on a hoist, and place jackstands under the rear axle assembly . Refer to Section 00-02 .
  1. Lower the hoist until the shock absorbers are fully extended to relieve rear spring pressure.
  1. Support rear axle assembly under differential pinion nose as well as under rear axle assembly .
  1. Remove and discard the lower arm pivot bolt and nut from the axle bracket. Then, disengage the rear suspension lower arm from the bracket.
  1. Remove and discard the pivot bolt and nut from the frame bracket, and remove the rear suspension lower arm .

  1. Raise the vehicle, and support the frame side rails with jackstands. Refer to Section 00-02 .
  2. Support the rear axle assembly .
  3. Lower the rear axle assembly , and support the rear axle assembly under differential pinion nose as well as under rear axle assembly .
  4. Unsnap parking brake rear cable and conduit from upper arm retainer.
  5. Remove and discard the nut and bolt retaining the rear suspension arm and bushing to the rear axle assembly housing. Disconnect the rear suspension arm and bushing from the housing.
  6. Remove and discard the nut and bolt that secures the rear suspension arm and bushing to the frame bracket, and remove the rear suspension arm and bushing . If upper arm rear bushing is to be replaced, use Suspension Bushing Service Set T79P-5638-A and Rear Axle Control Arm Bushing Tools T86P-5638-AH and the following procedure:
  7. Place the upper arm rear bushing remover tool in position, and pull bushing out. Using Suspension Bushing Service Set T79P-5638-A install bushing assembly into bushing ear of rear axle assembly.

Removal
