Have a 2000 Durango with the 4.7. Engine runs but 1&2 won't fire. Have replaced coils and plugs in both, injectors are good, at a loss here.

You need to run a compression test on the suspected cylinders to verify they are working compression wise. Should have 120-150psi depending on mileage.

Run a compression test on the cylinders.If reading is low on any drop a little engine oil into the pot. If compression rises you have compession ring problems. Remove all plugs before you try this and place leads away from engine.

Sounds like either a bad plug wire, or coil pack. This is about all that would cause the misfire.

Could only be a few things. The coil #1, Fuel injector #1, Stuck intake or exhaust valve, or blown head gasket allowing coolant into cylinder #1. Use a spark tester to check the spark coming out of cylindr #1 if checks good then ohm test the injector when it is warm. Check other injectors to compare. Do a compression test on cylinder #1 and test other cylinders to compare. If cylinder is low compression suspect valves and or head gasket. If compression is low then het a leak down tester to test if a valve is broke or sticking. On your sable i would suspect injector or coil most likely.

Ok. got a '99 clio rxe with the 1.6ltr 8V engine which has developed misfire. coils fine, spark getting to plug fine, and after changing plugs around I know plugs work fine also. Ran fuel cleaner through...


That's a good starting point. Make sure the injector electrically working (getting signal to fire) If so take a fuel pressure test to see if the fuel psi is within spec. If not (high psi) the injector is probably your cause. (usually not firing, electrical)

Here is what to check let me know if you need help checking this out
most common misfire causes on the cars I've worked on have been:
  1. Spark plugs
  2. Spark plug wires
  3. Ignition coil
  4. Fuel injector
  5. Wiring to fuel injector
  6. Timing Belt
  7. Vacuum leak or stuck open EGR
  8. Contaminated fuel or bad fuel pump
  9. Weak compression
  10. Blown head gasket

2000 4 runner v6 4x4 is starting to miss fire, i put new plugs in did not help


only other two option are the coils and the injectors'

With engine running unplg one coil at a time feling for the one that does NOT stumble the engine. The one that doesnt is the dead cylinder. Then rotate the coil to another cylinder. If the misfire follows it to coil then the coil is bad. If it doesnt then the injector is bad or clogged. Before replaceing it spray some water on the intake gasket to verify you do not have a leak .near that misfiring cylinder. If you do then the gasket is the problem. You should feel the engine stumble is its leaking

What is the firing order for a 2004 dodge durango


The firing order is a sequence of ignition time when the engine cylinders deliver their power-strokes starting with the number-one cylinder. If this sequence is faulty or arranged disorderly, the engine may not start at all, and if it does start, it may does so hesitatingly, or not run enough well to enable it to drive-or simply lacks the power to move. A waste of gas, and unecessary tear and wear on the engine and its critical components ultimately result. Once the firing oder is correc and in proper sequence, the engine should starts easily and promtly, running as quietly as posiible.

For Dodge 2004 Durango firing-order:
All 6-cylinder K 3.7L MFI SOHC distributorless ignition:
1-6-5-4-3-2 (front 2-4-6) (back 1-3-5)

All 8-cylinder N 4.7L SFI (including HEMI 4-WD)
1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 (front 2.4.6.8) (back 1.3.5.7)
(distributorless ignition)
It is also a good thing to try and compare the thread lenghts of the old spark-plugs being replaced with the new.

Jaguar s type 3 litre 1999 running badly, has been stood for 2 years, was running lumpy when stood up, hence why I bought it so cheap! have changed spark plugs, air filter and one coil pack and 1 lambda...


did you drain the gas old fuel turn into like gel and can clog injectors and run rough it may take a while and some fuel flush to have it running good again

Not firing right on no.4


First check plug and make sure the right plug for this vehicle,make sure that the heat rating for this plug is correct. Your problem could be a wrong heat rating plug been installed. Also make sure that the misfire is due to a bad plug and NOT a bad injector or injector wiring or uneven compression or even bad coil. Check injector wiring and make sure it not shorting or broken. To check injector pulse use a NOID light can be bought at almost any auto parts store like Auto-zone etc. Also compression can be checked with compression guage. A rule of thumb to go by is if any cylinder has more than 10 PSI in difference in compression there is a problem like a burnt valv etc. Here is a n example cyl# 1 170psi cyl#2 176 psi cyl#172psi cyl# 4 150 psi, there is a problem with cylinder # 4 and will cause a miss from cylinder #4. it sounds like you may have the wires on the wrong coil. It should be #1 on the #4 coil, and the #3 wire on the #2 coil. you probably have them backwards so 1 and 3 are firing on the exhaust stroke.
the firing order is 1-3-4-2.
they should be hooked like this.

Daewoo lanos 2000 car is misfiring and wont run properly firing on cylinders 1 and 4 misfiring


have you changed the ignition wires? perhaps firing order crossed? if not coil pack or ignition wires faulty how do you know it is not "FIREING" on 1 & 4 have you tested it with a spark tester tool???
