750 to 900. Depends on age and upkeep. A/C running up to 1100.

Testimonial: "We just got it so dont know much about upkeep all its life. But we just did the intake manifold gaskets and spark plugs and oil change and put a new iac valve on, new radiator, seals and hoses are all good no leaks now. start up is 1500 then drops to 1200 in park. when in gear its around 900. Is that a good run? its not stalling out down road, drive is great."

    That's a little high. Check the vacuum lines first. they are plastic till they get to the intake manifold, then rubber. Pinch off the brake booster hose. If the RMP's go down, then it will need replaced, it has a hole in the diaphragm. Did you replace the grommets in the lower plenum? ( the part that mounts to the intake) Mkae sure the A/C is off when checking the RPM's, It kicks the engine speed up a bit. One other thing would be the EGR valve. These get carbon build up and don't shut all the way. Basically another vacuum leak.

What component controls high idle on cold startup on a 2000 chevy blazer?

The engine computer uses the idle air control valve in all temp ranges to control idle speed. The throttle plate could also be sticking open.

My olds is overheating when it is when it is just idleing. The temp comes down once I start moving again or if I turn on the air. Is this a sign of a bad fan or possibly the thermostat?

It sounds like a cooling fan problem. You state the temp runs high when at a stop and idling, but goes down once you start moving. If the fan(s) are not operating, moving forces air through radiator keeping the temp at a normal range. Have the relay/fuse for the cooling fan(s) checked. They are located under the hood in the main fuse/relay box. If they are good, check the sensor that sends the signal to the fan(s). If it is good, then it could be a bad motor on the fan(s).

High idle on 89 4runner v6 EFI. Problem started after a leak in the cooling system causing it to loose pressure and get hot. After fixing the leak and changing out the thermostat the issue remains. It's...

Make sure the coolant temp. sensor is connected.

Bad coolant temp. sensor?

Coolant temp. sensor is ground out on the engine block?

========
The ECU use the resistor value from the coolant temp. senor to determine the block temp.

If the value is out of range.....the ECU will "think" the motor is still cold and let it ran at high idle.

I will use a carburetor cleaner to clean out the throttle plate and intake.

Won't idle when cold

Test both the manifold air temp sensor and the coolant sensor. If either are out of range it can alter the cold start idle.

HAVE THE COOLANT TEMP SENSOR CHECKED TO SEE IF IT IS FUNCTIONING PROPERLY.HOPE THIS HELPS. BEST OF LUCK. LET ME KNOW?
