on top by the seat belt

That's the latch, not the release.

I believe the release is in the trunk. You have to pull out the bottom seat. Then remove the bolts at the bottom of the back rest, pull up on it to get it loose.

If the back part is loose, you may have to crawl under it to get in. Most back rests have 2 bolts on the bottom to remove and have hooks on the top of them. Push it up and pull out at the same time. Some times there isn't room for them to lay down, so some one has to hold it up while someone crawls under.

randy they got the two bolts off but to the seat part the back part of the seat they can't get it to lay down or find release button to lay seat down do u KBO if there is one

Your not going to get the seats to lay down. The release for them is in the trunk. You have to pull both seats out at one time. I believe the side covers pop out(could have a bolt holding them at the bottom though) remove the and see if there isn't hidden bolts to remove. I have done to many different vehicles to know specifics of yours. Some are easy, some not. You may also have to remove the plastic pieces above the seat(around the windows) to get them loose/out

How do i get the back seats down to gain access to the trunk? It wont open

1. You either have a section of rear seat that folds down or you don't. Most cars do and those vehicles will have a manual tab just behind the seat that is connected to a cable that will release the trunk lock unless the lock is broken. So check the top of your rear seat sections for release buttons that enable a section of seat to be folded down. Then look just inside the opening for the manual cable release.

2. If you have a car with no section of rear seat that can be folded down, you will have to unbolt the rear seat to get access to the trunk. You need to remove the bottom section of the seat first. This will just pull up from the front and you can remove it from the car. Then you should be able to access the bolts that hold the upright section of seat in place.

Is there a way to open the trunk without using the ignition key

If you posted the year make and model, it would be easier to figure this out. Newer cars have a release by the drivers door and also a release in the trunk. There are some cars that the back seats fold down and you can get in the trunk to pull the release. If the car is older the key to the trunk should be a separate key. However some are not. If none if this applies then call a lock smith.

My trunk won't open, I have tried my trunk button and the key won't work, it worked fine a few hours, but even when i try to do it manually it won't open. Also I would look in and try the...

There are 3 phases to fixing your car's trunk lid release problem.

Phase 1: First check the fuse - once you know that's OK, then proceed to phase 2 (below).
The fuse for the trunk lock is
the bcm (pwr) 15A fuse in the instrument panel fuse box (behind panel at drivers right foot)

Check that fuse, as it is the power supply for the button on the dash that sends power to the actuator in the trunk.

Phase 2: Get the trunk open (without taking it to the dealership).
If you have remote keyless entry to the trunk, you could try that - but with the actuator
dead/dying, it shouldn't work.

Here are a couple of ideas to try to enter trunk while (a) actuator isn't working, and (b) all
valet lockout features (designed to deny valets access to the trunk) are in the "Lock" position:

There is the lock cylinder, which you stated is not functioning - put the key in, and it doesn't
turn. Just to be sure, consider: lubricate key with Graphite lock-type lubricant, and retry.

The trunk has 2 valet safetys...the locking rear seats which require access to the trunk to unlock, and then there is a valet switch in the trunk that locks the button on the dash from working to keep valet parking attendants out of the trunk. That may be in the lock position.

You can try accessing the center area of the fold down rear seat and see if you can unhinge the rear seat from there. Maybe reach in with your hand, or an extension-type tool.

there may be a way to fold the hinge away from the seat back so it can be removed from the hinge and give you access to the safety latch in the trunk and open it that way (white handle in trunk).
The white-handled safety latch release is desiged to prevent accidentally trapping children, and
if you can pull it with your extending-type or grasping-type tool, the trunk will open whether or
not the actuator motor is working.

Phase 3: Replace the Problem part.

Your failed part may be either (1) Trunk Release Relay, or (2) Trunk Lock Release Switch

My Satrun ION manual doesn't cover either of these parts, and the online parts houses, e.g.
http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,carcode,1431624,pgname,Electrical-Switch%2B%2526%252338%253B%2BRelay,a,search.yahoo.com%2BSearch%2Bfor%2B2004%2BSATURN
fail to provide instructions. One of those times a mechanic has to t=rely on his/her native
handiness and/or experience.
To identify which of these parts is bad, locae the Trunk Release Relay (call your dealer parts
dept. for helpful tips on finding it), then operate the dashboard trunk release button with your
ear close tothe relay - if it makes a noise, the problem is the Trunk Lock Release Switch in
the trunk lid, otherwise its the relay.

I locked my keys in the trunk the 2 keys ignition and trunk keys r locked in the trunk ..how can i get the trunk opened to get them out?

I did this once myself to my 1989 crown vic. There should be 2 bolts on the back seat (follow the seat belt down, you'll feel them.) Take off the nuts from each side and the backrest of the entire seat pulls up and out. you should be able to see clearly into the trunk, grab a flashlight and hopefully hook your keys pulling them out.

Another possibility is the trunk open button in the glove box should you be so equipped, but it may require power to open, the crown vic would not release unless the car was on, but it could be worth a try.

My 1996 maxima key wont open my trunk and neither will the trunk release button

the trunk release button has a little metal like a hammer that hits the trunk lock to release if bent will not open or if you disable it by pushing it down to disable trunk release button the key lock is frozen will not work even if key go's in normal. need to replace it. if u need to get in your trunk and if it is empty would be easy to do just open the middle part of the back seat panel and with a thin and sturdy stick and flash light can hit the little hammer to open it . hope it helps

Where is the release for the backseat to fold down

If your trunk release button is electric, and not working because you need to turn the key to give it power, remove the button and use a piece of wire to jump power to it from the battery. This will get your trunk open! (don't forget to have a spare key made)
