I would go with the E brake first, if it feels like it is in gear and you have to add power to get it to move. If it doesn't feel like it went in gear, rebuild the transmission. It is old and tired.

Possible a plugged exhaust system. Was the catalytic converter ever noisey or rattling on accell? Could be plugged causing high backpressure and no accel power.

Sounds like you are trying to start off in second gear . Will shifting to 1 give you any better results ?? If it does then maybe the shifter linkage is out of adjustment .

Check brakes or handbrake are not binding. especially if the car has been sitting for a long time with the handbrake on, you release the brake lever but the sytem can still be on, after driving for a while with little braking like on a main road or freeway stop in a safe place and check your wheels with some water to see if there is steam from the brakes this means they have been binding and overheating. for handbrake drum this maybe under the car and not on the wheels. so that has to checked too to see if it hot if so the break is stuck on. i would go to a garage and have this fixed as the break pads may need replacement if they have been overheating, to ensure they work properly once break systems is fixed.

I hope this was useful.

I would change the transmission filter and fluid first. It could be that your filter is old and stopping the transmission from working properly.

If a transmission fluid and filter change does not solve the problem, then it's time for a transmission rebuild or replacement. This can often happen if the car was driven improperly, such as sudden stops and starts, jamming the clutch into gear (in manuals), down shifting while the car is in another gear or from old age.

Check transmission light is on, Drive light flashes, car moves really slow when u accelerate and speed deometor never moves past 0

Looks like the speed sensor cable that attaches to the transmission is disconnected, or sensor is shot, hence no speed readings. Transmission module needs to know actual speed for shift patterns, if it does not receive any readings, it goes into a slow "safe mode".

Transmission. I hit the gas and the car goes nowhere.

Possible tranny problem. If your linkage from shifter to tranny is adjusted properly and your shifter gear needle is right on the PRND21 then it is likely your transmision

Engine revs but car doesn't accelerate

Since you did not say what type of transmission you have i will suspect the clutch is slipping if it's a manual.
If it's an automatic, it could be several things. Low fluid level...clogged filter, fluid needs to be changed..transmission serviced...weak pump, bands/clutch packs worn...etc
Good luck..i hope this helps, please rate me a fixya.

Transmission won't shift fron 1st, 2nd or 3rd correctly!

Sorry to inform you that it sounds like your transmission needs servicing.
Check the fluid levels and replenish if level is down.
If after doing this, the car still wont shift properly or smoothly,,then you will have to take the car into a transmission mechanic.

Transmission won't engage/ no drive or reverse at all

It's definitely cheaper to buy a trans from a wrecking yard than to have yours rebuilt. Before you do anything though. Did you make sure that the trans fluid level is full? I know this may be a stupid question, but I had to ask. The speed sensors job is to tell the speedometer how fast you're going...not related to your problem.
