That's what I was going to say Diagnostic test of the throttle sensor. A gummed up or intermittent accelerator cable would show up on the highway when subtle changes occur/are needed. It also sounds like you may still be in open loop ECM mode, so Google what sensors go active in a closed loop mode. The Mass Airflow Sensor is one and the Oxygen Sensor are two I'm positive of. If you are all warmed up and the ECM goes into closed loop then the list of input sensors would be very useful. At that point, if closed, the ECM is definitely seeing something that it feels needs over compensated to maintain smooth processing. Info like if it stays high reps or how long engine is running B4 putting in gear...are missing for true troubleshooting. ~~~~ Sc

Hi check all air pipe lines on and around inlet or induction manifold for damage or leakages . Check throttle sensor ,idle control valve or sensor ,throttle body might require servicing and adaptation with diagnostic equipment .If the vehicle has a manual acceleration system cable might be sticky or damaged.

Most likely if you have the model that is drive by wire aka electronic throttle body the 9 times out of 10 your gas peddle is on it last legs replacing it will most likely solve your issue with epc light comming on

I have a 2000 Chev Cavalier...when the T/C light comes on which is supposed to be for traction the car rpm's will rev out like its out of gear then the car will jolt and the rpm's will drop and it will...

Well, when the light is on it means the traction control is off or not working. And yes an ABS wheel sensor could be involved, but I doubt a wheel sensor would cause the symptoms. The jolting part sounds like the transmission is going into neutral for a few seconds.
You should be able to have the abs checked for trouble codes.

WHEN DRIVING AND THE TRANS NEEDS TO SHIFT ON MY 2005 VW JETTA 2.5-5 NEW STYLE THE RPM'S REV UP BRIEFLY THEN THE TRANS WILL SHIFT THE SHIFTING IS SMOOTH BUT THE HIGH RPMS WORRY ME.

when vw started to use the computer controlled gearbox system a criticism was the shift was very harsh,to counter this they made it rev slightly before changing.so that you know the system, try this out....without touching the gas.....put it in d and let the car accelerate to its max speed, stop, then use 1/3rd of gas (keep your foot still)and let it do the same...stop,then,if safe, put your foot to the floor, hard, notice when the car changes gear(revs/speed)then if you drive, only using the first1/3rd of the gas,the cars change pattern will alter to suit.......wierd it is.....

RPM is over 400 rpm higher than it should be with no gas pedal.

Could be several things.. I would suggest replace the neutral safety switch, all O2 sensors and fuel and air filters, PVC valve and if needed plugs n wires..
The issue could also be a bad throttle body.. Should be a good idea to get it hooked up to a diagnostic machine - get the codes and then you will know more of what you are dealing with..

Have a great day !!

Our 1998 chevy cavalier z24 slams into gear from neutral to drive and second gear to third gear. when it's in park and i put my foot on the gas the rpms don't increas steadily...it increases and decreases...

You need to take it to the shop to be repaired this is not going to be an easy fix. It is probably going to have something with shift solenoids or fluid pressure. Have the tranny serviced by replacing the filter and flushing out the system.

Transmission will not engage

Sounds like your torque converter may not be unlocking which is like letting your foot out on the clutch on a manual trans and not releasing the brake. Can you move it to neutral ok? To test the theory, move it to neutral, start the vehicle, then without putting your foot on the brake shift to drive with a liitle gas. If you can get going this way, it is the torque converter.

Truck starts and idles down as normal. If one guns it the revs will soar. If one tries to increase the rpm gradually the engine quits at about 2000 rpm. At this point if one lifts ones foot of the gas...

You may have a vacuum leak. My problem was with the L-shaped rubber hose at the top of the engine near the firewall. It had collapsed and dry-rotted. Replaced it and my truck runs like a gem. I believe it was fouling out my coils on plugs. This may not work, but would not hurt to try. Good Luck!
