After or during rain with the water on the road the car will have an engine shutter and slows right down and then cuts out, it does not want to start and drive until a about 12 hours latter.

When i try to start it after it cuts out the car back fires and if it does start it will not engage any of the gears and it cuts out again. however in good weather the car runs fine without a problem. how can i resolve this wet weather problem?

Well sir or mam. If I had more information it would be helpful. First, has the car ever had a tune up? (spark plugs/wires/distributor cap and rotor) If your vehicle is at least 6 years old or has 60,000 miles on it that would be a great place to start. However the problem your describing is what sounds like a worn out distributor cap and rotor. They should be removed from the vehicle and inspected for corrosion. If they appear to be discolored or rusty I would definitely replace them. That's where I would start. If you still have problems after that please contact the site again and I can give you more info.

Testimonial: "Thank you Sean however the car has had tune ups and it does not have a dizzy or rotors. it has a coil pack also if i could find where the spark plugs are i would change them. however thanks for your answer much appricated"

My Mercedes a160 problems. After or during rain with the water on the road the car will have an engine shutter and slows right down and then cuts out,

This sounds electrical in nature.have you inspected underneath and inside engine bay for trailing or bare or cracked cables.water is ingressing onto part of the electric system.could be anything from the ignition such as ht leads ....cooling such as electric fan.... Alternator....battery.check every where for loose ...frayed or bare wiring.you may have lost a splash tray that was removed during servicing or water may even be finding its way through front grill straight onto part of ignition system.lastly the ecu will record most events and log them as error codes which can be read at a local garage and reveal what may really be going on.unfortunaely some garages charge a fee whereas you might find a local one who will not.

Ok guys...I'm a woman so I'm going to take a shot at this... I have a 2005 Jaguar s-type with roughly 90,000 miles on it. Lately, I have been having problems and wants to get the best advice before I start...

The first thing to do is to have the fault codes read. If you comment with the codes found we may be able to point you in the right direction as to how to fix. Do this first before you spend heaps on all the wrong things.

Engine cuts out during heavy rains. This started happening a couple months ago during a heavy rain. As soon as the rain lets up (within mile or two) the engine settles down. Light to moderate rain does not...

If the check engine light is on have it scanned at Auto Zone to pin point the problem. If the check engine came on then went off it stored the code in the computer you can still pull it up.

Engine cuts out during heavy rains. This started

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM BUT WITH AN ASTRO VAN. THE PROBLEM WAS WATER WAS GETTING INTO THE FUEL PUMP CONNECTOR UNDERNEATH THE VAN, NEXT TO THE FUEL TANK.THIS WAS CAUSING A SHORT, NOT BAD ENOUGH TO BLOW THE FUSE, BUT ENOUGH TO CAUSE THE PUMP TO SHUT DOWN. BEST WAY TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM IS TO FIND THE CONNECTOR AND SPRAY IT WITH WATER WHILE THE VAN IS RUNNING. ALSO DO A WIGGLE TEST, THIS IS DONE BY GRABBING THE HARNESS TO THE PUMP AND MOVING IT AROUND, IF YOU HAVE A LOOSE CONNECTOR OR A BAD WIRE THE VAN SHOULD SHUT OFF.

When it is raining the engine idel is rough. 5.4 L Hemi engine. Only occurs during a heavy rain or in the car wash.

If you lift your hood, check the wires that are for your windshield wiper fluid, I had the same problem and because the wires were being pressed against the molding water was able to drop down onto the engine. When ever it rains really hard felt like the truck was going to cut off. But when the sun was out my baby would pur like a kitten.
