This code is for insufficient egr flow. If it is vacuum operated and removing the vacuum line makes the vehicle run better you will most likely have a vacuum supply solenoid problem allowing vacuum to the valve at all times. Follow the vacuum line from the egr valve and it should go to a solenoid that controls vacuum. Check solenoid operation.

Rough idle

the egr system works with vaccum and the vacuum control is a solenoid, who's controlling by open and close a electro valve,
if the valve is stoke open that allows the vacuum to go to the egr and make it work at the wrong time.

Code po401

Sometimes the intake manifold gets carbon in it from a bad egr valve. You may need to pull the EGR and see if you cant clean it a little.

Egr PO401

Code 401 is for low EGR air flow. The EGR valve allows exhaust gas to be recirculated back thru the intake and reburned.
The problem could be the EGR valve, the sensor, or a blocked line.

I have a po401 code on my 96 Ford explorer

Your egr port is probably block..Apply vacuum to your EGR valve, while the vehicle is running..The vacuum should hold and the vehicle should run very rough or even go dead..If the valve doesnt hold vacuum,,then replace the valve..If the valve holds vacuum, but there is no difference or very little difference,,the EGR port is clogged in your intake..If all works fine ,,then suspect the DPFE sensor..This tells the computer if your receiving any flow..from the EGR

  1. po401 refers to an insuffient flow of EGR gasses

  3. with engine running at idle
  4. on the underside of the valve you can access the diaphram.
  5. wearing glove if ness
  6. lift diaphram while idling
  7. does engine stall or run very rough?
  8. if not remove valve
  9. start engine
  10. you should hear a very large vaccum leak and exhaust noise
  11. if either are missing investigate cause

I have a 99 Windstar 3.8L Keep getting DTC PO401 have replaced DPFE EGR Valve and EGR tube still keep getting Code PO401

Does the egr vavle open ? You will need to use a scanner to test the dpfe voltage when the egr valve is energized you should read around 3.5 4.00 volts. Also you could remove the vacume line from the egr valve and with the engine running you should see around 100 rpm drop in engine rpm at least this would indicate the egr valve is capable of flowing egr gases through the system to the cylinders.

Have a code p0401 how do u fix it , I know it has something to do with the egr system but I,m not sure where its located on my trooper, engine size is 3.5 v6

I have a 2000 Isuzu Trooper that had a PO401 code that would reset and then 2 miles later the light was on again - I found if you remove the EGR valve and start the engine that the engine should idle rough - If it doesnt and you have vacumn at the intake port spray carb cleaner down the port slowly and see how long it takes for the engine to run rough - Keep spraying till the engine dies and spray some more down the passage and let the engine set for 5 minutes and then restart the engine - it will run rough at first but clear out - you should be able to feel the engine RPM change when you put your finger over the intake vaccumn port for the egr - If not then repeat the cleaning method again - If you do feel the rpm change then put the egr valve back on and clear the code and run your drive cycle to see if it is fixed.

1992 Chevy Silverado idles rough why?

Check your MAP and TP sensors. Your throttle body may be having trouble determining position and is compensating by adjusting RPMs.
