Power steering belt shredding on 97 caravan

Count the multi-grooves on each pulley. Mine had six on one and more on the alternator. Changed to the six grove belt and end of story. Yes the alternator had one extra grove but works great.

Good Luck

Tension adjusting

What belt are you talking about? timing belt? accessory belt? power steering belt?.....come on........Cars are very dangerous to work on if you don't have a clue or a toolbox, or a aftermarket service manual.....remember there is no grove at the drive shaft pulley bro!

How to put a belt on

You put a 3/8" ratchet in the tensioner arm. Looking at the side of the engine to the passenger side of the van, the tensioner is at the top of the engine towards the back. Twist the tensioner to allow the old belt to be removed, Install the new belt following the same path. There should be a sticker on the belt guard by the power steering pump. The belt will fit smoothly on all the pulleys. Pay attentions as some pulleys have the belt groves facing in, some have the belt groves facing out.

IMPORTANT - When you do this, put all the keys for the car in your pocket so no one can try to start it.

Hi. My 1994 bronco 5.8L xlt is shreding the serpentine belt. All pulleys are in line, I've replaced power steering pump, The problem seems to be the crankshaft pulley, as the belt seems to ride on the...

Well if you did not have this problem before replacing your power stering pump, then your power stering pulley is not press all the way in, this is a very common failure from the person replacing the pulley, seen this many many times, and like you sad your belt pays the price, your pulley has to be flush with the p/s shaft period, no recess, remember the bolt, washer, nut, that come with the pump? you still may get them in place to press that pulley(replace washer for a thicker or double up so doesnot bent)
Good luck

How many belts are there on the power steering , alternator & fan on a 1965 Chevy Nova 194 6 cylinder with out air?

There are two (2) belts total. The power steering belt also goes around the fan/alternator. Double pulley on the alternator/fan, single pulley on power steering pump. The power steering pump mounts above the alternator on the left side of the engine.

How to install power steering belt on 97 geo prizm

Most likely the belt and pulleys are shiny if you look at them, replace the belt, while you have the belt off try and clean the glaze off the pulley groves, this will make the new belt "grip" better and avoid slipage.
