Hi Again Cherrie: My wife reminded me that "cast off" is also a term associated with knitting, as in something you have to do to finish it. That got me thinking, and it's also a term used to describe the action of untying the mooring lines for a ship, Bonus!!! Lots of great meanings. Hope this helps.

In the world of boating, it means to take the mooring rope off the dock so you can leave.

In the world of knitting, it means something quite different.

Not sure what the actual question is, it's in the "cars and trucks" area.

How can i i.d this engine from the outside i.e casting numbers

What do you mean "this" engine. No photo or any other info. Casting numbers are seldom enough to ID and engine. Some engine #s help, but for some there are no external clues that are absolute. To tell a chevy 350 from a 400 there are some absolute differences, but not true for all similar engines, so what are you working on?

2005 voyager runs great when cold but as soon as it heats up it won't go over 3 thousands revs.

You have a cracked head, are they are cast, when cast metal is cold it shrinks, now I am meaning really cold outside like almost freezing, and when it gets hot the crack opens, don't know if they are cast or aluminum though, but that is one of many tthings it could be. I wish I could be alittle more specific for ya

Are there freeze plugs on a 2005 Chevy Equinox? We had a hard freeze last night and now the heater doesn't work.

Freeze plugs are actually Core plugs for the block to get the sand out when casting the engine block from cast iron. They actually have nothing to do with freezing, or the heater. What do you mean by "doesnt work" ??? doesnt blow at all? doesnt blow hot?

Hi I own a 2002 ml270 and it has developed a crack

Depending on what its made of, cast or aluminum or whatever, if its in a fixable place, meaning you'll need to drill a hole on either side of the crack to stop it from growing, then weld it up if its not cast, or if its cast braze it. You'll have to take it off the car.

NUMBERS ON BLOCK

Hello there:

Casting dates are usually expressed this way, “C 18 4.” In this example, the “C” means the month of
March, “18” is the day of the month, and “4” is the last digit of the year. This last digit may mean ’64, ’
74, ’84 or ’94, so you must also check the other characteristics of the block to determine in which
decade and year it was made. Some parts have the decade and year cast on them; these identifiers
look like this: “C 18 84.” GM introduced new model years in September or October of each year, so
when you see a casting date of “L 16 7” for example, this indicates a casting date used in the 1968
model year because it translates into December 16, 1967. A 1968 model Camaro assembled on
January 6, 1968, might contain a number of parts that were cast in December, 1967. Casting dates
should precede hand-stamped engine assembly dates.
