Question about 1992 Ford Ranger

'92 Ford Ranger manual trans. Will not shift into gears. New clutch and fluids are full. No grinding or loud noises while running. Just will not engage gears. Is it the slave cylinder not engaging?

The only adjustment you'll probably need is to get the air out of the clutch line. Loosen the bleeder screw, and put a two or three foot vacuum line on it. Submerse the other end of the line in a bottle of brake fluid. Pump the clutch untill no more bubbles are coming out of the hose into the bottle. Be sure to keep the reservoir topped up while you do this. Hold the clutch down, and tighten the bleeder screw. Some hydraulic clutches do have an adjustment on the rod that goes from the slave cyllinder to the pressure plate. I'm not sure about yours. If there is a nut on the rod, you can adjust it somewhat. You want it set so that there is just a little bit of play between the rod and the pressure plate where the rod goes. If none of this helps, you mayneed to replace the slave cyllinder.

Wont shift into 4th gear and grinds


sounds like stick shifted car, manual. trans. so.
clutch is dragging
if it has clutch master cylinder, and slave
first check the clutch filler cap, is the fluid full?
some have a cable clutch, and needs to be adjusted every 20k miles. did you.?
or the shift linkage is off, and cant get fully in to 4th, so grinds.
again service skipped now bad.
why not get it serviced.?

1990 camry shifting cable went out


your clutch has went out or the slave cylinder to clutch or clutch master cylinder ck master for fluid if low fill and work clutch peddle to pump up slave cylinder if master is full ck at trans to see if slave cylinder is moving if moving clutch in most likely bad and needs replaced.

4x4 6 cylinders manual trans.1995 ford f150 when down shifting and changing gears to slow down a very loud grinding sound but if i pump the cluth and rev up the rpm's sometimes it goes into gear.....


check and make sure your slave cylender is full of fluid, it should be mounted on the firewall, also sounds like you need to bleed the slave cylender.

How do i fix the gearshift on a manual transmission


If the gear shift problem you refer to is that it's hard to shift into gear while stopped, the clutch is not disengaging far enough. If the clutch is hydrolic, check the fluid level. You may need to bleed it. If cable, there may be an adjustment you can do at the trans end. Or, another reason trans is hard to shift, the trans has come loose and is binding on the pilot bearing. If you have enough miles, the pilot bearing may be bad. Of course, the trans could be worn out as well.

I have a 2005 ford focus and am having transmission shift problem


No movement in any gear: pump failure, R&R, To check for pump failure, check fluid level with the engine off, then start the engine and recheck fluid level. If level does not go down when engine is running, the pump is broken.

Front pump bushing walked out. R&R. May have to replace converter also if hub is scored. Note that a leaking front seal usually means the bushing is walking out (i.e. call your local trans shop and schedule an appt.).
Loud bang, grinding sound, loss of all gears, and a binding driveshaft: snapped output shaft. Try to wiggle two end driveshaft (inner CV joint) - if more than 0.020" play, that's the sign. R&R.
These are just some of the things that could have happened to your transmission, regardless your going to have to have it sent in to a transmission shop for a repair, and grinding noise indicate a hard part is broken and not electrical issues.

A clutch issue youtend to have more of an engagement problem with 1st and reverse gear for a small time period before you notice other gears.You want to check the clutch hydrolic system for any leaks(clutch slave at transmission,clutch master,which you look for leakage on interior above clutch pedal)and at fluid resevoir.you also want to double check condition of trans fluid. strongly recommend using only HONDA BRAND MANUAL TRANS. FLUID when doing maintinance,fluid should be replaced every 30k on this car.The Honda brand fluid is like night and day on these cars,it WILL make a difference in shifting!!TRust Me on this point! Sorry now back to your main clutch issue,when driveing and you go to shift gears and normally notice grinding,with clutch pedal in shft out of gear and before engageing it into next gear do a double pump of clutch pedal then see if when continuing to next gear if it engagees smoother.if so you know you have without a dout a clutch pressure plate/disc problem. I can tell you that in twenty years the only manual transmissions themselves that ever had problems were due to outside influences(gear oil in transmission,improper driveing,etc.)let me know what you find and we can go from there..JOEL

The gear grinds soemtimes and it is hard at time


you will need the clutch checked over. the clutch hydraulic system is first to check. check fluid level, if its low, top it off with brake fluid, and find where its leaking. if the fluid is full, make sure the pedal feels normal.if its in the hydraulic system, the trans doesnt have to come out, but a clutch replacement it will....... does the clutch slip? if so it will need replacement. if noisy only when depressing the pedal, the throwout bearing, or pilot bearing may be bad, and clutch replacement will be needed. be sure to have the flywheel resurfaced and replace the rear main oil seal while the flywheel is off.
