I pulled the cylinder head and it has a crack in the third sparkplug department, so I am going to replace it with a used cylinder head.

check to see that the electric fans are turning on when they are supposed to, and make sure the coolant is full and that the rad cap is good. Bad radiator caps are one of the most common overheating causes

This is a common symptom of head gasket leakage. You could do a block test to check for combustion/emissions gases in your coolant. It's pretty easy. The block tester can be rented at Autozone for $25.00 and you'll have to pick up some block test fluid ($8.99). Follow the directions on the back of the tester. If your fluid turns green or yellow, you've got combustion/emissions gases in your coolant. You can then test each cylinder head seperately by disconnecting the spark plug wires on each head and repeating the test one at a time.

sounds like overheating caused the head to warp blowing the headgasket ? there are always reasons this happens ? bad rad, waterpump, fans not working, thermostate, so be aware that after you repair headgasket to fix what caused it to blow or you will be doing it again ? god luck firstname.lastname@example.org
