At TDC the ignition rotor needs to be aligned with #1 on the cap. +/- 4 degrees.
A scanner us helpful in determining the exact spec.

turn the key to the on position a see if you can here a buzzing sound around the fuel tank,if you don't hear a sound then. (be very careful while doing this) with the key off take a fuel line coming from the tank loose, make sure its pointed away from you and turn the key to the on position, see if any gas comes out,if not then your fuel pump is probably bad.

SOURCE: 98 Dodge Dakota "pick up coil" cam position sensor repeat failure

Honestly? Cruddy parts.

I have a Dodge Stratus....97....same thing here. Unfortunately, shoddy parts, even from the dealership. I think the best thing is to keep a fresh one on hand. I know that the wiring is garbage too due to how the harness curls up to the sensor. Not much to tell you on this one.

Dodge dakota 3.9 v6 year 2000 where should rotor point to on cap when cam gear dot at6 and crank gear dot at 12 and on tdc compression stroke it points to number 4 on cap when cam dot at 6 o clock

Make sure you are on the compression stroke. At TDC of compression stroke, the rotor should be pointing to number 1 on the cap. Either you are on the exhaust stroke, or the distributor is 180 degrees off and needs to be reset.

How do you find TDC on conpression stroke 1998 dodge dakota 3.9 v6

Turn crankshaft pulley until TDC mark aligns with engine block pointer. Remove rocker cover and check that cylinder 1's valves are closed (not compressed). This is cylinder 1 TDC firing position.
