Also if all that doesn't work maybe a hair dryer or a heat gun. Just to heat it up enough to make it soft and removable. I would probably use a hair dryer instead so you can control the heat better. As you don't want to damage it

Goo gone works great. Rubbing alcohol, wd40, Magic eraser, or even 3000 grit sand paper may even work

Hi Graham: Don't know where you are, but in this corner of Canada it's in the cleaning supplies section of most stores like WalMart or Canadian Tire.

When a plastic is at its total melting condition, the more you try to clean it the worst it becomes. You ended changing the whole parts. I deal with sticky plastic everyday, no all the cleaning will works on sticky problem. Are you having a oily touch on your plastic ?. if yes it is at its total degrading process, all cleaning will not work but it will degrade even faster. Treat it so that the life span can be prolong. What is the dash compartment strAPS CALLED that hold the door on dash open.

Hi Donald:
They are usually just as you describe, "dash compartment" or "glove box" restraining strap.
They are often called "broken".
If you try using Google with the make, year, and model, with the description "glove box parts diagram" you might just get all the info that you need.

2002 saturn L series blower motor resistor location

It's under the dash, passenger side. Remove the glove box door, glove box, disconnect the BCM from the glove box, look waaaaay under the dash ,almost center, up against the firewall ,for a 2 wire line that plugs into a white plastic part that has two bolts holding it in place. That's the resistor.
. Why do you believe that is what is causing a problem?
Please let me know what is going on, I have replaced this on my car, it was extremely difficult, and wasn't the problem at all.

Citroen C5 Exclusive V6 2001. The dash has gone sticky. Even strong solvent will not remove the stickiness. Has anyone else had this problem and solved it please?

If there has been any form of dash cleaner used or preservative used (armoral etc) other than that recommended you have a break down in the plastic material used in the dash. Take the car to an upholsterer /restorer for an opinion but I think the answer will be to have the dash restored

Ls400 1990 has lost power but still runs

Check the Spark Plugs , Leads , Points and Distributor units are serviceable and on fully and correctly.
Go to a Motorfactors and buy some Carb cleaner.
Take off the Air pipe to the Carburettor and clean the carb as best you can with a piece of cloth , getting rid of residual oil and muck left over the years of use.. Spray the Carb cleaner in and wipe again . Start the engine without replaceing the Air pipe. Use the throttle / Accelerator with a few pumps , it will sound a bit noisey.
. Knock the engine off again and refit the Air pipe to the Carburettor. Take it for a spin on a fast road to try and clear the residual stuff from the Carb.
You can use some Petrol Additive to help clean the internal bits every few refills of petrol.

The parts on my dash have become sticky and gooey to the touch, leaving the residue on my hands when touching the parts. I don't know if it is a rubberized coating or something similar. Does anyone know...

Hi and welcome to FixYa!

I strongly suggest that you use Armor All on cleaning the dash. This can get rid of the unusual feel on the interior plus it gives an elegant shine.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

Vent door stuck and can't remove glove box

why can't you remove the glove box? You can get at the door from under the dash but it's a ***** to do. try lubing the vent cables unless it uses the vacuum motor, if it uses the vac. motor it will be hard to get to without the glove box being out.
