Question about 2008 Pontiac Grand Prix

1 Answer

I intermittently hear a noisy crackling sound coming from one of the speakers like super amplified noise. It intermittently comes and goes by hitting bumps or jars in the road.

I have a 2008 Pontiac Grand Prix. I intermittently hear a noisy crackling sound coming from one of the speakers like super amplified noise. It comes and goes according to when I hit bumps or jars in the road. I can't turn it off by turning off either the radio or even the ignition, but hard slamming one of the passenger doors sometimes causes it to go away. I also am having battery problems with the battery not staying charged. I think the two are related and that something is intermittently shorting to ground--even with the ignition off--and coupling through a speaker amp. I don't know what to look for to trouble shoot this.

Can barely hear speakers when they are turned all the way up

Assuming this applies to all the speakers in the TrailBlazer, you likely have an amplifier transistor in the radio going bad. When they occasionally work, or you get a "crackling" sound it is usually the amp. A slim possibility is a bad ground, but that usually won't affect all speakers, only one.

Rear speakers have no sound

No speakers are not fused.. It is most likely a speaker wire that has gone to ground so they would have to be traced to each speaker to see if you can find the short

My car stereo all the wires are hooked up correctly but no sound will come out of the speakers (we have looked at 3 separate diagrams that say we have the wires hooked up right) but its a 1994 ford escort...

look its easy, take a 9 volt battery and pull your radio back out but only disconnect what you think is your speaker wires then 1 pair at a time ie.purple and purple/black touch 1 on the + and the other on the - you will hear a crackling noise in the speaker that those 2 wires go to.

I think you are hearing the electric fuel pump running, when they get old they can get fairly noisy and it is buzzing sound.

Bose radio comes on but no sound in my 2004 chevy avalanche.Sometimes even with radio off you hear a popping sound come from speakers. thanks

First Visually check all your fuses. Does rig have amp for stereo by any chance? It sounds like amp is bad and/or fuse is blown. Amp is wired between radio and speakers, and a shorted amp would make crackling in speakers when radio is OFF

Where do i start with the electrical problems on my 2003 tiburon. My parking lights started to just stay on or flicker on and off killing my battery, to where i had to start leaving them on permanately to...

I've had my '03 Tib's BCM replaced 3 times now. If you have the chip-in-key factory security feature, you can't use a second-hand BCM because it's programmed to your specific key.

I'm not aware of any cases where the BCM caused the speakers to crackle, but the parking light thing definitely sounds like the BCM.

More than likely with a 2003, the speakers that cut out are in the door or doors. Do they cut out of both speakers?

If they cut out of one, then you may have an intermittent speaker ( the wire to the cone becomes partially connected)

If both speakers turn off at the same time and you hear NOTHING on all speakers, then you more than likely have an intermittent connection on the radio itself and probably replacement is probably cheaper than fixing the radio.

One more thing
Factory radios sometimes have an amplifier in them. Sounds funny but they call the Radio in the dash the Head Unit and the amplifier is buried in the dash. You could have a bad amplifier or a loose power connection to it, but that is very unlikely.

Hope this helps.
