Year make and model, plus the engine size. How do you know it is from just the left side. Smoke from the exhaust or under the hood?

My engine smokes after I had my engine redone

I need more info. Smokes from WHERE? From engine, or exhaust? What color is the smoke? Does it come and go? Is it just present at certain engine temperatures?
Can you observe anything leaking? Are you overheating? Are you consuming any fluids?

So, the cliff notes:
Engine could smoke initially, just from all of the handling, machining, new sealers, new paint....etc. This should subside, usually pretty quick Day or two, although odors remain longer. This is viewed as a non issue.
Smoke from exhaust. Blue is oil, not good. Typically you would be needing to add oil more often. Not good on this issue as something is wrong, somewhere. Major offenders are valve guides, and the piston/ring/cylinder relationship.

White smoke can be couple of things. Firstly, in absence of ANY issues, some white smoke, and some water can be observed. Not an issue. For every gallon of gas your burn, you produce a gallon of water. Most evaporates, but not all. Non issue.

Lots of white smoke, however, is not good. Antifreeze in the combustion chamber produces lots of white smoke, and smells sweet(er). This is not good, highest offenders are head gaskets (if it is determined a head gasket failed, remember it is NOT the gasket's fault. You must resurface (mill cut) the head or you'll suffer premature failure.) Sometimes heads crack, so pressure test the head(s) if you take them off.

So, as you can see, there are tons of possibilities and I need more information from you...

Put rebuilt head on now engine smokes and has aqlot of blow by

any time you put a new or rebuilt head on top of a used motor you are going to get some sort of blow by. the more miles one the Rings the more blow by you will have. when you put on the rebuilt head south the new valves. you increased the compression ratio. thus making the worn rings from being able to hold back all the compression. next time at least drop the pan and put new rings in. better new pistions and hone the cylinders. best pull the block have it bored .20 over (which gives you a 2.0L ) have the crank turned. have the cams inspected for ware. and just replace old with new. yes.its more expenses in the beginning but well worth it. because look were you are now. to fix it you now have to start over with a lighter wallet

I have blue smoke coming out of the exhaust of my 1998 dodge caravan

Blue smoke is usually an indication of bad rings, which allows engine oil to be burned as you drive. The fix requires engine teardown, pulling off the heads, removing the oil pan, and removing the crankshaft, rods, and pistons. The cylinders may need to be bored, but at the least they will need cleaned up with a hone. The old rings taken off and new rings istalled. If the engine needed bored, then new pistons must be installed. Then, put it all back together.

Hope this helps you

Why is my motor oil coming out my tail pipe?

Bad Piston,Bad rings, bad valve seals,Cracked cylinder head.cracked block. Don't forget now there is a lot of suction and compression going on in a motor. If any of the above are happening in an engine the suction will pass oil through a bad piston or rings or any of the above and cause Blue smoke and spit oil out the exaust along with blue smoke.

What make my 1993 blazer smoke

there are a few reasons for the engine to smoke. first determine the color of the smoke, white smoke means its burning water...possible bad head gasket or cracked block or cylinder heads. If the smoke is black...means the fuel mixture is to rich, getting to much fuel. If the color is blueish...it is burning oil, meaning the oil rings are worn, and or the valve seals are worn as well. if it smokes when you first start it, and then stops after a few minutes, once the engine is warmed up...probably bad valve seals. if it continues to smoke it is more likely the oil rings. Valve seals being cheaper and easier to repair, where as the oil rings means the motor needs to be rebuilt or replaced.

Excessive smoke. i think the oil ports in the head are clogged. how do i check them and clear them out?

If the smoke comes at start up then after a while goes away it is your heads -take them off and have them looked at in a machine shop If the smoke comes from a load on the engine then the piston rings are going bad -time for a bottom end rebuilt

I have a 350 in my 71 camaro. when i start the engine i get apuff of smoke for about 20 seconds then no more smoke. Any ideas?

This is usually caused by worn valve guides allowing oil to drip down the valves into the combustion chamber--something that could be forgiven on such an old engine. If you want to fit it, have new guides put into the heads or have the existing guides knurled.

I lost compression in one cylinder an it is the # 2 cylinder

Lost of compression is due to either leaking head gasket, valves not closing and seal properly or piston rings are worn and need replacing. One can tell if you have bad head gasket, oils contaminated by water when looking at dip stick, bad valves cause some smoke and run rough, worn piston rings will cause lots of blow-by and will cause white smoke heavily and also runs rough. Being 1968 original motor and never have been rebuilt will probably have over 100k mile will be needing tear down and rebuilt. Rebuilt it correctly will get another 100k plus. being 1968, doing your head and valves job or replacing head gasket if that is the problems and you can get by it. worn rings, I would rebuilt it completely instead repairing one or two cylinder unless you plan to get rid of it.
