to get the DTC error like P07xx.
and skipped gears can be the TCM is in limphome on all cars
with electronic shifted transmissions.
it means,IM SICK. fix me.
check fuse first.

Check the Trans fluid level with it running and at operating temperature. Jeep NAG1 transmissions are known to have the input electric seal leak trans fluid. Not an exspensive fix add Mopar ATF4 and then relace the guild seal.

I would have a OBD II reader plugged in to retrieve the code(s).
It may not be anything major, but like you said who wants to be stranded ?
Please let me know what you find.

You need to have the vechicle scanned for codes.I believe you are going to limp in mode on the computer.Have them check all codes,transmmission and body along with engine.
