Question about 2006 Dodge Caravan

My 2006 dodge caravan is saying gascap on the speedometer and throwing no codes. Was running fine and then died! Acts like it is getting no fuel but no leaks anywhere! Where should I start?

Pull the gascap and check to see if there are gouges out of the o-ring seal on it. Also look at your filler neck and insure there are no cracks on it.Technically it's registering a slow leak in the
evaporative emissions control system. Since this is usually the fault of the gascap, that's the message that it shows, but the actual cause could be a small leak at any point in the EVAP system.
I also find some excerpts from caravan manual ... see if it helps

From 08 Grand Caravan manual:

Loose Fuel Filler Cap Message
² If the gASCAP message is displayed in the instrument
cluster, this signifies a leak or change in the evaporative
system is detected. Sometimes this is the result of
a loosely fitting (or possibly damaged) filler cap.
Tighten the fuel filler cap properly and press the
odometer reset button to turn the gASCAP message
² Make sure that the fuel filler cap is tightened each time
the vehicle is refueled.
² If the problem continues, the message will appear the
next time the vehicle is started. See your authorized
dealer service center as soon as possible. See Section 7
of this manual for more information.

Yes Jerry is correct if the gas cap is bad and sucking in air it could be causing a vapor lock. older Fords and Corvettes used to have that issue alot.

These vehicles seem to have a problematic short, my grandfather has the same vehicle with the same problem, i found the short under the carpet on the driver side of the vehicle, under the gas pedal, sometimes wires can crack and break.

Blown Fuse or fried Circuit board. Take to a local AutoZone, Advance, Murray's, O'reillys or a similar part house for them to check the wiring. I'm assuming the van does not use a mechanical Speedometer or Fuel Gauge.

On the plus side, with no speedometer, your indicated odometer mileage does not increase. Just keep your speed down and your tank full. Kidding, just kidding.

SOURCE: my 2006 dodge caravan is throwing the code po404,

This code is for the EGR valve. IT may just need cleaning or there is a vacuum leak to it. Best way to clean it is to take it off the manifold and using a brass brush and a chop stick to push into the ports.

This could be catalytic converter plugging off or fuel pump or filter issue. Especially if it runs good at low speed.

Where milage gage is it says gascap. Put new gascap on and it still shows up

Emissions trouble codes need a number of drive cycles completed in order for the code and/or indicator lights to extinguish. The drive cycles can involve several hundred miles of driving, a number of starts, a combination of low and high speed driving.
Most of these codes can be manually erased with a code scanner tool without the need to wait for the drive cycles to complete.

gas cap ok??? this system reads a negative pressure on the fuel system, check vacuum lines carefully, make sure the gascap seal is good, and that the tank is not rusted

Have code on the odometer "9ASCAP" or possibly "9RSCRP". What does this mean? It seems to run fine.

It actually says GASCAP. Just turn off the engine, Remove the gas cap and replace it, making sure to turn it more than you think you need to close the cap. You may need to purchase a new gas cap because the seal is old.

I have a 2008 Dodge Caravan. My gascap was loose

The light has to be actively turned off because the code will not necessarily clear itself. Sometimes it can be done by disconnecting the battery for an hour. If that doesn't work, it'll have to be done with a garage's scan tool.
