Hi Knut:
This question is in the cars and trucks section. Cars and trucks have engines and any number of things, most of them not good, cause the engines to overheat. Most of the time we have to figure out the problem and repair it. Reset buttons tend to be found on electrical motors. They are usually coloured red and have a label that says something like "push to reset".
Hope this helps.

1995 mercury tracer car overheated an stopped . went back the following day after cooling , engine turns but wont start. do I need to turn the fuel cutoff switch and reset button?

I don't think the fuel reset is going to do it. Does the engine sound different when it turns over than it used to? I think you might have got it too hot. Did you shut it off or did it shut its self off?

no reset button. Take vehicle to your local aotu parts store such as autozone ans ask them if they can run a code scanner test. This can list any and all trouble codes associated witht he light being on as well as reseting the light.

Ran out of gas. after putting gas into my 93 mercury villager it would not start. please HELP

2 Suggestions:
Check the gas reset button located besides the parking brake pedal (red button), press it and try to turn it on.
Check with a mechanic if the gas pump still works (if you ran out of gas you could probably have damaged your gas pumpby overheating it)

1989 525i wont start after overheating-Need help ASAP!

engine could be seized...:( sorry...or a hose could have blown (radiator) and hurt or disconnected a main electrical line ...check fuses battery and cables..there is a bulkhead power junction on firewall high rt. side(passenger) immediately next to engine..battery located under back seat passenger side...first thing though..make sure you can turn the motor over by hand (breaker bar on nut at crank pulley) to determine if it is not siezed...good luck
