Robert, you have to give us a little more to work on than "leaking antifreex". Even proper spelling would be appreciated. Your alternator is not likely water cooled, so I think you're just giving us a general location. Without information such as the make, year, car model and engine (I even have to assume you're talking about a car and not a boat or motorcycle), we can't determine what is "behind alternator" that might be leaking. We would give you much different advice if you said it was something like a leaking hose than if you said it was a leaking water pump. I'm not trying to single you out Robert. Probably half of the questions on this site are incomprehensible. This is a message to the questioners on this site. If you want a quality answer, please give those of us who answer the questions on our own time for free, a quality question. We really want to help you.

1998 for expedition 4.6 engine leaking water beteen the back of the motor and the transmission

Not very likely, check the coolant passage between the cylinder heads. (The front part of the intake, right behind the alternator) That piece which is part of the intake manifold has been a source of coolant leaks for many vehicles like yours. The alternator is pretty easy to remove... Disconnect the negative battery cable, turn the belt tensoner to remove the belt from the alternator, take out the two long 10mm bolts under the alternator and the three on top. I would check for leaks there because it was a common problem area, coolant would leak behind the alternator, fill the space under the intake manifold, and leak down right where the transmission bell housing is. There are expansion plugs, and allen plugs on the back of the cylinder heads, but they rarely leak.

I have replaced radiator, hoses, water pump & thermostat on 1994 BMW 740i and the antifreex is still leaking, What do you think is the problem?

do you have smoke out the back esp from cold and still wen engine is warm?if no visable marks from core plugs or hoses then you may have a head gasget fault or it could be leaking out the heater matrix.check carpets for dampness or condensation.check to make sure all pipes and radiator are hot all over.water pump and thermostate not common faults on the 7 series.sounds like you might need to dig further.

The pump may leaking from a weep hole at the bottom of the pump. If the shaft seal goes bad, the hole allows the anti-freeze to leak out.

Hello. The longer you drive this car without having the leak repaired the greater the chances are that you will be sitting on the side of the highway somewhere. Go directly to an AAMCO or similar auto parts shop and have the leak repaired. The reason why the antifreexe leaked out but the water didn't is because the total amount of fluid in your system is decreasing all the time.

Alternater Leaking Brake Fluid

i'm not sure if it is brake fluid or engine oil but i used to rebuilt alternators and the izusus have the engine oil pump integrated with the alternator, so all what you have to do is get another alternator from auto parts or find a place and have them rebuilt your alternator, im sure you will find a good place in the yelllow pages. they have a o-ring inside that when it gets damage it will start leaking engine oil, or brake fluid like you say, but definitive there is a pump behind the altenator and the seal must to be replaced
