First off you need a good battery or jumper leads as it takes a bit of cranking. You usually don't have to do it at the pump you crack it were the hard line goes into the injector. Back that nut of just enough that you can wriggle the hard line just a little. Then crank the motor over until you see that there are no air bubbles coming out with the fuel. Then tighten the nut while still cranking, after a couple have been bleed the engine will try to run. After the engine is running repeat the bleeding process to each injector again. It does help if you can hook you some low pressure air to the fuel tank and make sure that the fuel has reached the filter and pump before you start.

Is there a fuel pump reset on a 01 TDI jetta ? I ran out of diesel AMD now it won't start

When diesels run out of fuel they fill the lines with air. To get it to start you have to bleed the air out of the system starting at the fuel filter pump and any where else there is a bleed screw. IF you have or can get your hands on a owners manual or a work shop manual for your car then the process and location of bleeders will be explained.

Not Starting

You should need go empty on a diesel. You will need to bleed the system for it to start. Some do it on their own from simply cranking. You might try a couple of shots of starting fluid in the air intake. First remove the air filter. The speed of the engine turning runs a fuel pump that pushes the fuel to the injectors.

SYSTEM WONT BLEED

diesel engines high pressure pumps not suppose run dry.diesel fuel keep high pressure pump cool and lubricated.problem could be fuel pressure regulator in the fuel filter water separator housing.replace fuel filter see if it helps problem could be fuel pressure regulator in fuel filter housing, the fuel pressure regulator has a air bleed orifice that allows vent to the fuel tank.make sure fuel pump fuse okay pump getting power. i would let garage or dealership check it out if all fails because your diesel engine fuel timing is pcm controlled if let fuel system go dry you probably have to have fuel injection timing reset or could have damage high pressure pump letting it run dry i hope thats not the case because high pressure pump not cheap part i hope it not that.

Ran out of diesel now vehicle won't start

This is not unusual on a diesel. What happens is there is air in the system. If this vehicle has an electric fuel pump loosen line where fuel enters injection pump then turn ignition key to the on position and watch for fuel to appear and then quickly tighten line before turning off key. Then try to start. If does not have electric fuel pump will need a second person. One will loosen line and watch while other cranks vehicle until you get fuel and tighten line before the other person releases ignition switch unless vehicle starts first. If that doesn't do the job do this where line hooks onto each injector. Probably will not have to do this to all injectors but could run rough until all the air gets out of everything. I have farmed with diesel tractor for 25 years and dad I drove the gm vehicles with the 5.7. You normally don't start a diesel without bleeding the air out of the lines although some will self bleed most won't. Hope this does the trick.

Ford galaxy 2007 ran out diesel an would not start afterwards tried everthink can u advise me please

Hi James, If any diesel vehicle runs out of fuel it is required to 'bleed' out any air that has entered the system. Have a look on top of the diesel fuel filter housing and there should be a bleeding nipple. It will usually be a ten millimeter or sometimes an eleven. Loosen that until when you pump the plunger on top of the housing, clear diesel passes out. Pump several times, as maybe for the first five or six times the air wont be expelled. Once all the air has been expelled lock the bleeding nipple closed and after preheating crank and start....

How do i bleed a cooling system on a estima lucida 1995 2.2 diesel??..I'm unsure if its a bleed problem or lack of flow..Maybe the water pump is knackered..

just slacken off the clip on the highest water pipe to allow steam to escape, topping up the expansion tank as you go.obviously when the engine is hot....

Diesel 1989 F-250 set too long and will roll over

You may have to bleed the fuel system. There may be a very small air leak in the fuel supply line and after a long time idle, the fuel seeps bac into the tank, leaving an air lock in the pipe. When you go to start, this air makes its way into your injection pump & needs to be bled out before the engine will start. Begin from your fuel filter bleed valve, next the injection pump using the primer pump to transfer the fuel. Next loosen off the injector pipes and crank the engine over until fuel sprays form all the joints. Tighten injector pipes and start. It may run a bit rough for to begin with, but will soon even out. If it doesn't start, repeat bleeding of injectors.

Ran out of diesel and filled it again cant get it started

Hi,

You have to bleed the diesel from the injectors, however diesel forced out of an injector can go through the skin and could prove to be fatal so great care should be taken.
