What could cause my ODB2 connector to stop working?

Last weekend I disconnected my battery overnight while performing some maintenance (tune-up, reset P0420 engine code) and when I reconnected my gauge cluster no longer works. The check engine light is on but my scanguage and the Honda dealer's computed will not connect to read it. They have spent 3 days looking now. tracing wires and said that all of the fuses/relays are working fine. Does anyone have any insight or has experienced a similar problem?

It's got to be another connector or fuse someplace. The OBD II connector does supply power to the reader and one of the very likely sources of failure is the fuse for that power. My GF's GMC Yukon XL OBD II connector didn't work and it turned out that the power was on the same fuse as...the cigarette lighter. She knew her son-in-law had caused the lighter to stop working but it never occurred to her that there would be any side effects.

You should be able to find the wiring diagrams online or get a copy from the dealer (especially since he cannot find the problem) and trace back from the OBD II connector to the fuse and power source to identify the fuse in question. Of course, if it appears good, check it with a meter--they can blow in spots you can't see.

Good luck!

How to reset computer on 1993 ford f250

Ford technical hotline told me to leave battery disconnected half an hour to reset but that didn't work. I left it overnight and it worked.

Once the defaults are restored the vehicle should be started and driven in a mixed fashion until at least full working temperature is reached.

Ok might be my wires but I turn the engine from the outside it doesn't turn is it locked?when I try to start it,it clicks and sometimes when I try to start in it turns real slow and clicks

Hi Nelly:
I'd bet a bag of popcorn against a weekend at Pizmo Beach that the battery needs replacing or the terminals or connections are corroded.
First step - dis-connect NEGATIVE battery terminal.
Second step - disconnect Positive battery terminal.
Third step - Put battery on charger for at least 3 hours, preferrably overnight..
Fourth - CLEAN all connectors and terminals
Fifth - Re-install battery Connect POSITIVE terminal first and Negative last.

Try to start. If No go, try using jumper cables.
If it starts, Go buy a new battery, and a bag of popcorn.

i think the service light is interval based, and not actually measuring the state of oil/filters etc. a odb2 tool should be able to reset it

My 1999 Chrysler LHS battery drained why is this happening

Tons of possibilities here. Corrosion on terminals builds up over time, causing higher resistance for the electricity going back into the battery from the alternator, causing it to charge more slowly. Moisture (or moisture in dirt) on top of the battery can cause a slow discharge between the poles (worse in humid areas). Short circuits (from bare wires, corroded connectors, etc.). Devices such as phone chargers plugged into power outlets that stay on when the key is off (some do, some do not). Interior lights left on. Remember, also, that alternator recharging will typically not take a maintenance free battery to 100% charge once it has been severely discharged. That means that, even though the car may seem to start fine, it may reach the point of turning the engine slowly (or not at all) much more quickly. It will only reach 100% again if trickle charged (with a battery charger). Probably 4 out of 5 of my battery issues have been solved with a good terminal cleaning and an overnight trickle charge, and my batteries rarely last less than 5 years. My truck battery is still going strong at 9 years. Regardless, though, batteries eventually stop charging, even expensive ones. Hope it turns out to be something simple.

Code 12--Battery Disconnect---Direct Battery input to PCM disconnected within last 50 ignition key-on cycles. Normal if battery has been disconnected, otherwise check battery power and ground connections.

Code 37--Torque converter clutch solenoid CKT or Trans temp sensor too high or low---Open or short in CKT wiring or connectors. Voltage out of range at transmission temperature sensor input.

Code 55--End of message code. A DTC 55 is used to end all DTC messages.

When is the last time you had a tune-up? I would start by replacing the cap, rotor, plugs and wires. Also, check all hoses for vacuum leaks.
I hope this helps.
