Sounds like a bad connection on your ignition switch or wiring in the fuel pump circuit.

You have a non OEM (Ford/Lincoln) gas cap?
The cheap gas caps do not vent correctly and cause a vapor lock in your tank. As the gas is removed it creates a suction and the pump is not able to pump fuel. After sitting for 2-3 hrs the suction is lost and the car works again. This is the most common ghost I know.
Next time you have this starting problem, take the gas cap off and see if it starts. If it does buy a new gas cap.

Several components help a car start: 1) Starter, 2) Battery, 3) Camshaft sensor, 4) Crankshaft sensor, 5) Fuel pump, 6) Coils/Plugs. Start by testing each of those to ensure spark is reaching plugs on a consistent basis. If u can hear fuel pump - and you are sure fuel is in the tank (sometimes the fuel sending unit goes out, making you THINK fuel is there...). Cover each of those, and it should start...if the security system isn't being signaled to stay can also prevent a start... :-)

i had the exact same thing happen to me with my first car, a 1966 mercury comet.

i replaced the fuel pump, rebuilt the carburetor (twice), and finally rebuilt the entire engine! still, every time afterwards, the car ran ok, then would cut off again!

it turned to be just a $2 clogged fuel filter. i' suspect the same with your vehicle. after removing the filter, simply blow through it. any resistance, means it needs replacing.

You vehicle is equipt with a fail safe device the oil pressure switch, the fuel pump will run as long as the oil pressure is okay if this switch has failed you experience extensive long cranking time the oil pressure switch activate the fuel pump replace that switch leave the fuel pump alone.

Car sits for two-days or more have to pump peddle and crank for long time before starts. Sometimes it will sart faster if I crank and pump then turn off egnition then rtedo , it will start faster.....

If you car is a mid-1980's or newer it's fuel injected and pumping the pedal has no affect on it starting. A few causes are = clogged fuel filter, intermitent fuel pump activity [ pump, or relay ], faulty fuel pressure regulator, leak in system, etc. If you can hear the fuel pump run when you first turn on the igntion, then look for the filter or regulator problem. If there's a leak in the system then it may get air bound.

for 1 fuse blown evry so often then you must have a short somewhere, the fact that it will crank and not start is most likely ur fuel pump , had the same issue with getting fuel to start or keep car running, possible that short could be by the fuel pump, the fuel pump is located under the rear seat and if im not mistaken it is on the drivers side rear

next time your car does not start try cycling the key 2 or 3 times from off to on and leaving it in the on position for about 4 secs, your check valve in the fuel pump may be gone and all the fuel leaks back into the tank leaving no residual line pressure (meaning you have no fuel in the lines) so when you cycle your key it activates your fuel pump give that a try and let me know how it worked...

Truck starts sometimes and sometime it does'nt

are u aware that the fuel pump and the fuel pump connector cause this problem in this year? replace both and the problem will go away, to verify the issue spray starting fluid into the intake next time it fails to start, if it starts then the pump and pump connector to the fuel tank are the culprit.

Sometimes my 1998 explorer will fail to start, it cranks but the fuel pump doesnt activate.....then it will just start! I have swapped the relay. any suggestions?

Sounds like it's time for a new fuel pump. Double check all the wiring to the relay to be sure none of the wires are broken or corroded. Chances are if they are ok, you have a bad spot in the fuel pump itself.

Fuel pump not coming on

fuel pump operation on your impala is controlled by the computer. It activates the fuel pump relay when ignition is turned on, but only for a few seconds. This is called the fuel pump prime. When the computer senses a crank signal (upon start up) it will activate the fuel pump relay constant. I have found more problems with the fuel pump relay than anything. Vapor lock will not cause a no start unless it is in the fuel lines. GM systems use the manifold air temp sensor to allow for quick starts when hot......increases fuel injector on time. An intermittant fuel pump relay or bad pump will cause a no start any weather.
