What trans is it? Manual or automatic? Autos there tourque converter bolts that need removed bell housing bolts speedo cable and electric plugs that have to be removed. Front wheel drive CV shafts need removed rear wheel the driveshaft needs removed. 4wd depends what setup is in it. Solid front axles vehicles trans and transfer case removed as a unit. It just depends on year make and model but for the most part its the same idea.

I cant find were the transmission control solenoid is located at and need to replace it

what kind of transmisson is this 4t40or 4t60 or 4t65 or 4L60 ..well most general motor solenoids are located on the the transmisson valve body . which means on a rear wheel drive the transmisson pan needs to be remove to gain access to the valve body . On a front wheel drive the valve body is located under the side cover on the transmisson . Now if i remember rigth there are 3 or 4 control solnoids . 1-2 shift 2-3 shift and a Tcc solnoid . you need to know which one to replace and what location are they on the valve body

going by what u stated with ringing noise i would say you have a bearing going out transmisson which would require total rebuild of transmisson which requires special tools and alot of time i would guess book time on that would be around 8-10 hours and that not includeing time removeing and installing transmisson so i think u best option is a junkyard tranny far as what ones are compatible junkyard should be able to look that up on there computer ok far as good signs and bad signs i assuming where taking about a atuomatic transmisson
first try to get one with as low as miles as possiable one thing u can do is drop pan and see how much metal fillings are in the pan all used trans going to have a lillte metal in them but u dont want alot in it although sometimes this not a option cause the junkyards drop the pan to check them themselfs so u wont see anything probley easiest way to check them is take the speed sensor out (located in right tube where passenger side halfshaft goes ) this is sensor is a big magnet and if it plastered with metal stay away

There could be several but It should have 100,000 mile warrenty on the drive train so take it to the dealer Your truck is notthe first one I have seen on here with this problem and always assumed it was a transmisson problem. I ned to know how they know it's not the transmisson? did they remove the shift lingange offf the transmisson and see if it would shift thru the gears ? Also Ford has it's powertrain control module mouned in the transmisson so this does not seem right to me, ask them if they took the linkage off and tested the control module and get back to me.

Brillo pad, maybe a 2" mirror on a wire or gimbal (dental mirrors are a little small), flashlight. The model and serial numbers are on the side, and if you managed to take the thing off, on the ring inside the gasket face attaching it to the engine. Or, remember the service history/ask it of a Nissan Certified shop.

2000 Chevrolet S-10 Problem:4x4

I assume you mean rear end? Removal of the 4 bolts to the universal that connects the rear end to the transmisson is required. Removal of the shocks, and all U-bolts and brake lines/e-brake lines is needed as well. Support the vehicle with agood pair of jack stands, getting high enough so the tires don't touch. This is obviously a simple and brief descrption of what needed. Chiltons manuals are always helpful as well. If you need any farther assistance don't be afraid to ask. Thank you for using fixya.com
