How to find an electrical disturbance in 1998 ford expedition

Normally this condition is the result of a poor body ground connection. Testing for this can be deceiving. At the static(nothing on) condition, testing can show a good ground. However when a circuit is excited, it has a determined resistance and a set current flow. If the ground connection to this or a branch circuit is loose, corroded, or broken wire. This will allow just enough connection to show as being good, but not good enough to complete the circuit with the required amount of connection when energized.

1998 corolla runs fine but if you turn the headlights on or use the signal light the motor dies

the battery voltage is dropping below 10vdc.

use a voltmeter , walfart $10

see it drop below 13.3vdc? running?, that means the Alternator

system is messing up, if true, ask for help.

the head lights and heater fan suck about 20 amps on,

and a weak battery is now overloaded.

or main power feed to the ignition is corroded., even

simple battery lugs corroded. cause this.

but the Voltmeter never lies

one easy trick is use said meter at the cig lighter socket

turn key on, see 12.6v (charged battery is that)

then HL and fan, still near 12v?

see charge lamp on dash glow? it must. if not fix that.

then start engine, now it must be 13.3v to 15vdc or the

charge system is failing,

is the charge lamp on , running engine, fix that next.

(battery= charge lamp)

the alternator belt must not be loose

and engine RPM hot above 800RPM,

Electrical problem with 1996 toyota 4runner

check the alternator. should be giving out 14 volts. around 5 amps on idle. also check the earthing wires in the engine bay and check they have good contact any and most electrical problems are down to a bad earth.

Turn the key and nothing

Check battery cable connections. There should be a hot wire (hot at all times) to the ignition switch, and when key is turned the switch sends power out. Either the switch has lost the power in, or the switch is bad, not sending power out.
Do the headlights work? When key is turned to on, do the warning lights and gauges come on in the dash? Does the radio or any accessories work when key is turned? If nothing works, you need to check if the ignition switch is getting power from the battery.

You probably have a ground issue , looking at a wiring diagram or ground distribution diagram to see if these share a commom ground point or share power from same fuse,https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WoN1nou5t1Q&t=224s circuit with a high resistance problem . Do you know how to test automotive electrical circuits with a DMM - digital multi-meter , how to read an use a wiring diagram to pin point test spots in a circuit . Free wiring diagrams at http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html . Check out these videos on voltage drop testing an basic electrical testing . This is the way to find electrical problems .

I have a 2008 mitsubishi where the dash lights go out and the cars dies but I still have headlights and interior lights.

headlights and other lights are not connected to the engine system. If the dash lights go out and the engine stops there is a fault in the ignition system. A simple check is to remove any objects (keys, pencil tourches stc from the key as they swing with the vehicle they can and do turn the ignition off just a quick check before spending a lot of money

2002 Intrepid. Turn the key and hear one click. Dash lights come on but hear nothing else.

Do a quick check on battery, get someone to watch the headlights turn them on and then turn the key to the start position, if the lights go out then your battery is either completely discharged or has gone bad.

1995 mercury villager will not start i turn the key and all the lights come on but no click no nothing.... my husband could get it to start by jumping the starter so he replaced the starter nothing he then...

mcdevito75 her, My immediate thought is a dead or weak battery, but it could be a bad starter also, here"s what to do, inside the car turn the key 1 notch to the on position, note the dash lights, now turn the key to start and note the dash lights again, do they go dim?? if they do you most likely have a weak battery, if the dash lights do not dim, open the door so the interior light comes on, any interior light, try to start the car, if the interoir light dims, you have a weak battery, if it does not dim with the key all the way to start, check and clean the battery connections, and suspect a bad starter. Any electrical appliance can go bad very quickly. Also if the battery is2 years old, replace it.
