Bus communications can be tricky/elusive. Your car has to be out on a scanner . To read every computer on it. The point is to isolate which computer/s can't be read. After this is wire chasing. pulling plugs and checking for resistance of the wire between computers. If all the wires are good(unlikely if you have two or more computers not reading). Then replace the computer. Bad thing could be that one computer is shorted out to the data wire. This will cause all the computers not read. This is when the headaches and long hours begin. You have to check every computer and module in the car. You will need electrical diagrams and pin outs for all the plugs.

No bus is a common problem and it means that the cable harness to the computer that is mounted on the firewall in the engine compartment, is either loose, corroded, damaged or the entire computer is bad. Make sure that you check the cable and don't rush out and replace the computer.

I have replaced the computer already and I still get the same code. No bus. Where is that located where you are talking about?

  • Brad Brown Apr 02, 2015

BUS is a term that automakers use to describe a cable or group of wires that run together and they can either be carrying data or voltage. There are more computers in the car than just the ECM. One controls the brakes, one controls the transmission one controls the body components and they all talk to the one that controls the engine.

SOURCE: speedometer an check engine lights

Try to find the speedo-cable from the firewall down the the transmission. Usually on auto trannys the speedo head (the signal generator which is a gear basicly) is located on the top of the tranny, of course attached to the speedo cable. If it's a 'drive by wire' car and there's no cable - it will require more investigation.

SOURCE: 99 jetta check engine light on, runs fine, speedometer not workin

o2 sensors will put your check-engine-light on. it is attached to the exhaust (closest to the motor)and rusts-out sometimes. you could try to fix it by buying the o2 sensor and use a socket-set to see if it loosens. i 'm not a mechanic but have had the issue, in the past, with the jetta II's and a 1997.the guys at vw dealers are great with info, if your a hands-on kinda guy/girl.

No bu5 light is on

It is "no bus". It means the cluster is unable to communicate with the other controllers through the PCI bus. The engine controller tells the cluster fuel level, engine temp, and oil pressure. The transmission controller and ABS tell the cluster to display speedometer functions, warning lights and such. Air bag communicates when to turn the light on and so on.

You replaced the BCM with a junk yard one , it probably needs to be reconfigured an programmed . Dealer only . In my thrity years as a automotive technician i have seen this , people changing parts without know what they were doing . Take it to a qualified repair shop .
Information for the speedo an odometer come over the CCD bus from the BCM ! I bet you have no idea what the CCD bus is ? You have no clue as to how this vehicle works .
