How to set Valve clearence in Mitsubish Lance 1987 Engin model G15B

When Piston 1 is at TDC, (timing points inline), both valves are closed and there should be a gap, say 12 thou on exhaust and 8 thou on inlet. Turn the engine until Piston 2 is at TDC, (both valves closed as with number 1) and adjust, keep going until all pistons have had the clearance set.

piston height should be measured from the center of the piston pin to the head of the piston or the piston crown. increasing piston height increases compression pressure but make sure it does not hit the valve.

Piston hitting valve

The procedure is ti fit the timing belt properly. Did you start the process with the engine at TopDeadCenter on the compression stroke of number 1 cylinder? Something is terribly wrong, congratulations on testing the configuration by hand. I've seen what damage has been done by people that just hooked up the battery and wind it over. They had a smashing good time.

Pull all your spark plugs, put your finger over the number 1 spark plug hole and wind the engine over by until you find the compression stroke on number 1 cylinder. Keep turning slowly until you bring you crank timing mark to the timing indicator. You should be at TDC compression number 1 cylinder, you can check with a screw driver or piece of wire that the piston is at the top. Make sure you are winding the engine in its working direction. Now look at your camshaft timing marks and indicators, they should all line up. If the marks are out of line, correct them, do not move the crank.

Once you have everything lined up again and tensioned correctly. Turn over the engine by hand 2 FULL revolutions. Should be all good then.

Spider injector replaced and no start

my thinking is when the engine backfired maybe one of the valves got bent and is now hitting a piston and keeping the engine from turning over or a rod may of gotten bent/broken. you could try taking all the spark plugs out than try rotating the engine backwards if it moves backwards try moving it forwards and see if it stops in the same spot if it dose than it is likely either a valve or the rod if you have something to look inside the engine throw the spark plug hole try to see if a valve is bent and try to see if all the pistons are all moving up and down the same amount. you may be able to tell if the pistons are moving by putting a rod throw the spark plug hole against the piston and trying to rotate the engine in either direction and see if the rod moves the same for all the pistons.

What you need to do is lift the car take out the wheel where crank shaft is,
also know as the harmonic balancer

I get an error code P0302, miss fire on cylinder 2 detected. Wires and plug have been replaced. What else can cause this problem? Thank You for your assistance.

Burnt valve, blown head gasket, hole in piston, broken piston compression ring, bad coil if this engine has coil on plug configuration.

at the engine from right 1st piston =piston number one
the engine from right second piston =piston number two

turbo? if you have a 1g GST or GSX, your gonna wanna swap in a early 1g 6-bolt engine.
the optimal configuration using stock 1g/2g parts would be:
  • 6-bolt w/2g pistons. compression: 1g= 7.8:1 2g= 8.5:1
  • 1g head/intake manifold
  • 1g throttlebody
  • 2g throttlebody elbow
  • 2g exhaust manifold
  • 2g o2 housing
  • 1g 14b turbo
