These cars are prone to throttle body problems.the throttle butterfly is controlled by a electric motor via the engine controle module. the butterfly get gummed up and sticks. try cleaning it and the housing with solvent. i had to change lots of throttle bodies on these cars under a factory recall because of these and similar problems. you should also check for air leaks in the induction system. you could also have a transmission problem. like a siezed stator in the torque converter. get someone to check for fault codes. good luck.

How long since you replaced your Coil on plugs(COPs) and the spark plugs? On Lincoln LS with Jaguar engines, they interrupt PCM signals to throttle, transmission, etc. Just a thought. don-ohio

My xj8 Jaguar crank up and sets right back off what all could be wrong

Security is set. Could be one problem. Fuel system can do this, but rarely. Takes a scanner to see where to look first.

You have to find the reason the check engine light is on. This will aid in diagnostics. Also, are you buying fuel at the same place both times?

After my 2000 s-type 3.0 runs for about 30-40 minutes and I come to a stop it does not want to pull when i give it gas

Without additional information it will be very hard to diagnose the problem.

1. Is it a manual or automatic transmission?
2. When you say pull do you mean that the engine is stalling out or that the car doesn't want to move forward - as in transmission slipping?
3. Have you noticed the transmission slipping before - especially in reverse?
4. Are the fluid correct?

Just had timing belt replaced...but now i have a ''ratterling'' from the fan belt area / alternater area..is it connected to the work what was done? loose belt? too tight? help

Due to battery being disconnected while timing belt was replaced, You will need to go through the IDLE RELEARN PROCESS.

In order to make the engine run normal again, you need to take the car through a relearn process. Otherwise the idle could be very slow or have a 30mph idle.

To enable it to relearn, here's what to do.

1) Disconnect the battery cable for 15 minutes, before hooking it back up.

2) (KOEO) Turn the Key On with Engine Off, just so the electronics are on, but without starting the engine and turn the climate control panel to off.

3) Push the off and warmer buttons on the climate control panel at the same time and hold for up to 5 seconds for the computer to go into diagnostics.
On the fuel panel screen it will display 888 then E52 and then 70.
When it gets to 7.0 shut off the key for 1 minute.

4) Repeat step 3, two more times.

5) Start the engine without pushing on the accelerator pedal and let it run for 18 minutes with the climate control panel off.

6) After 18 minutes put your foot on the brake and shift into drive and wait 1 minute.

7) Then turn on the a/c by pushing the auto button. It needs to be warmer than 60 degrees F so the compressor can engage. Wait 1 more minute.

8) Put the shifter back in park and turn the key off.

9) Wait 1 minute

10) Idle relearn is now complete and the engine should start and run correctly.

You just need to go through a simple Idle Relearn Process.

The Idle Speed Control motor will cause the accelerator pedal to tap and the car will surge back and forth, actually acting like there is a lack of power during intial startup.

Whenever a battery is changed, went dead or the ECM computer is replaced.

My jaguar s type has had a new fuel filter fitted. but this has not fixed problem. It loses power especially going up hill. we pull over turn off engine for a minute or two, the starts ok for a while....

Had this problem on a v6 3l petrol. No codes present.Connected laptop to diagnostics and drove jag for a few miles.Found fuel pressure to start off at over 55 psi but slowly drop to 20 psi and less until car came to a halt.
Waited a couple of minutes hey presto car starts, pressure back to over 55psi running fine for a while.tested power supply to fuel pump,ok at constant 12 volt. Changed inline fuel regulator and fuel filter, still the same.Checked fuel tank for any possibility of a vacuum occurring,no not that either.Had to bite the bullet and change the in tank fuel pump, problem solved runs fine. This car had also been to jags and because no fault code appeared it must be alright! I have learnt that over my forty year mechanical experience that common sense basics must also be checked out and not totally depend on computer fault codes.Hope this helps.bw Johnnyman.

Jaguar stalls

If this is the same as the problem of engine stall when reaching 60 - 80 mph (and then usually taking foot of accelerator).
Then it is probably due to a fault in the circuitry in the throttle body. some were replaced by Jaguar but now I believe you need to get a new one (now rectified versions) - about £800
Hope this helps   Chris
