Question about 2002 Honda Accord

I have a 2002 accord se 4 cylinder. what's wrong if it cranks but doesn't start? although it sounds like it's about to start up

Have someone check your timing belt, and also if you have a scanner check your coils.

Sounds like a problem with the coil/distributor, or if you have spark, then try the Main relay or fuel pump.

Sounds like no fuel pressure i would have someone crank it for you while you bang on the bottom of th fuel tank, if it starts fuel pump is failing. If not can you hear the pump running?

Check the ignition control module. Sounds like the exact same problem I have had with mine. Took it to the dealership and the were able to tell me right away. The ignition control module is very easy to replace and is located on the top of the valve cover. Hope this helps!

Sensor is located at front of engine near crankshaft pulley which is the very bottom pulley and has one bolt holding it in place, remove bolt and pull sensor out. Hope this helps.

This is exactly the way it is supposed to be. The spark virtually never occurs at TDC. The spark is always advanced somewhat, sometimes as much as 45 degrees if the engine is reving high and at minimal load. The distributor is made so that the rotor points to the cap terminal within it's operating range...usually between 15 and 30 degrees before the #1 piston reaches the top of it's travel.

Take it to the dealer to fix it for a permanent solution, but there is a quick fix when in a bind...

There is a little key space on the left side of Park, take a screwdriver and open that and then take the screwdriver and touch the pad that is about an inch down in that hole, while touching it, you can put the car into any gear.

It is your celluloid that is sticky, which sometimes happens in hot/muggy weather. You may need that replaced.

If is is only smoking when you first start it up. Most likely the valve guide seals, oil is leaking into the cylinders and smoking when you start it up.

this code tells you that you have a miss fire on cylinder #1. it could be a bad plug, bad wire, bad coil, bad injector, vacumn leak a intake runner for this cylinder. you will have to check anything that affects cylinder #1 only.

Lancer timing


-Try one more time. When pull out the plug, make sure ground it.
If there is spark shown. It could be the rotor point to the wrong cylinder plug wire.

Cranks won't start


First you must check to see if engine is mechanical sound by performing a compression test. remove the spark plugs install a compression gauge in the spark plug hole and crank engine about 4 cycles compare readings to all cylinders reading should be around 125-150 psi readings in the 50 psi range possible jumped or broken timing belt. If engine is mechanically sound test for spark at the spark plugs use a spark plug laid against valve cover and have some one crank it over look for the spark to jump the gap. A no spark problem is internal in the distributor.

I have a 2002 pontaic grand am se.i turned it off and now it will not start/no spark at coil


very likely a faulty crank sensor, although the ignition module could be faulty too. I'm oversimplifying, One good thing to do, if you have access to a scanner, is to check the data sream for an rpm signal while cranking. If that's missing, you can pretty much bet on a faulty crank sensor. Try it and get back to me if you are still having trouble. Thanks

I have a 2002 Dodge Stratus SE 4 door with an X in the VIN number. It died driving doen the highway cause the timing belt slipped off. Just replaced the timing belt, idler and tensioner. Now the car cranks...


First thing you want to check is if the rotor on the distributor is at the #1 plug wire when the #1 cylinder is at top dead center. This will ensure the timing is set correctly.

95 accord ex 4 cylinder - cranking problem


if the fuel pressure is low its the fuel pump. hence the slow start. is it the fan that not blowing check the switch for bad contacts
